This will be the situation in at least one Eurozone country, unfortunately.

"Good enough" is accomplished by almost every cheap Android today, so bying an expensive flagship is only all about "look at me" I am "successful" because a own a "flagship"!

so looks like only S8+ 128GB will come with 6GB RAM...
you better release that overprice crap in NA / Europe as well
since you cant play with storage space like iphone does (due to android / competition)
now you guys are playing with memory? even $450 OP3 / OP3T got 6GB
      quit playing with your customers

Eu countries have different rates of VAT, so there is no reason phones should cost the same in every EU member state.

Samsung have reportedly been having low yields from it's 10nm chip fabrication process so the Exynos 8895 and Qualcom 835 SOCs are costing more to make. Larger display panels are more expensive to make. It therefore isn't surprising this phone would be more expensive than the S7. The iPhone 8 is also rumoured to likely be more expensive.

I think the Iris scanner will ultimately eliminate the fingerprint scanner as Samsung have upgraded it since the Note 7 and even on the Note 7, it was working pretty well, and it never had a second or 3 run at optimizations that I am sure would have been able to iron out any first time to market issues. The S8 has been refined and will most likely be really good at unlocking and you will eventually forget the finger print reader is their unless you need to use it to open your papal app or something, at least for the moment anyway.

Anonymous, 24 Mar 2017R.I.P. Samsung, long live Huawei! Samsung is no longer th... moreReally, show me a phone from them with an Iris scanner, custom made Voice / personal assistance AI, that wins a display awards for color accuracy and comes with better grade headphones to compliments its Entry to Mid level Audiophile grade DACs, or camera that is renowned as a serious challenger to the very best the market has to offer while going further to implement better image processing. Innovation is something Samsung are not a stranger too.

Well, they are slightly exaggerating now, and if the top dogs, including Samsung will keep increasing the price always more year after year, they will convince even more customers to switch to the Chinese ones that they offer excellent flagship killers with an affordable prices, phones such as the OnePlus (4/5), ZTE Axon (8) etc. So if they will keep increasing the price and on the other hand, the affordable brands will keep the same philosophy/ strategy, and so always improving and keep an affordable price, it will be just a matter of time, to change the whole game of prices, etc.

AnonD-643350, 24 Mar 2017I don't understand why you people want to pay this much mon... moreBuddy, I for one am very interested in the XZ Premium and I have no idea which I will buy at this stage, I am only defending the price being higher than previous devices based on features and cost to bring to market.

The S8 does have a number of hardware based features that will cause the build cost to be higher. Irish scanner cameras, Software and R&D cost to create said tech, build a new screen that close to every side of the phone and a lot of work to make their UI work with no hardwre buttons, plus the fact the Bixby is a huge software undertaking. This all has a cos that needs to be paid for, if not then Samsung will not make money and will go bust.

                          It is simple accounting.

Ohh, a decent car will last 5+ years with little to no maintenance costs aside from the regular oil changes, consumables like tires and break pads. $1000 does not go far, $900 even less.

You are blowing it out of proportion by what you said. In reality, it is a fair price and it is within the bounds of reason for what you get, like I said earlier, $300 of AKG IEM's.

You need to correctly assess the value of the S8 based on what it offers over previous models, not what you think it should cost or if you think they should always cost the same. I want a FLAGSHIP phone, and if obtaining that with flagship level headphones and features that are no available on any other device, then I expect that the price will go up and I am happy to pay more, because the price is quantifiable and you can assign cost per item involved in the process of creation.

I would be willing to bet that the cost of a finished, boxed S8 before a profit is assigned to the unit is more than the S7 equivalent, edge or otherwise. So, it fair that we, the consumer pick up the difference, add to that the R&D cost is going to be higher and tooling costs in terms of software development time, also has a cost to be linked to it.

If you do not truly attempt to view it for what is really is, , rather than just seeing it as a pretty rectangle thing that does basically the same as your current device, then yes, your expectations of price will be tainted.
