As Elop said in the 2011 MWC, Symbian is here to stay. Symbian will still be used in the mid range phones of Nokia and that Symbian will now be constantly updated.

AnonD-3575, 17 Mar 2011well, i use android and most of the apps are stupid anyway ... moreNokia IS abandoning Symbian. Elop said that before and at MWC. No matter how many times you keep denying it, that IS the truth. Elop, CEO of nokia (in case u dont know) described symbian as the "burning platform", he said that he will abondon it otherwise NOkia will be burnt along with it.

HE showed couple of slides at MWC that CLEARLY reveals his intension to completely abandon symbian after selling about 100 million symbian phones (ie 1 year sales)

IF you want to save symbian maybe you can pray that the board of directors kick elop out.

people are so hard on nokia i don't get it. they act like the iphones have no problems and the all came out of the factory with no problems when this is far from the truth. iphone customers settle for the minimum on the phones a childish and closed os witch gives no options oh and now a screan with an unnessary amount of color while the rest of the fragile hadware needs a case to last long enough or to funtion properly. but you settle for it.i have frends with ipones and the can't do a lot of the things mine can do but at at list the can make video calls, wait! i can to and it does not have to be another nokia. gsmarena has a huge double standard with there reviews i for one am glad i did not take there word for it.i make no excuses for the company i use. i would like them to improve but i will not settle for the outdated made hip lol... i hope nokia updates the os soon

i do understand why you would think that, but as i've said, NOKIA IS NOT ABANDONING SYMBIAN. if you can understand that, we can talk. but it seems you're forgetting that

also, symbian doesnt need zillion of apps, ios is bare out of the box
symbian has much more built in apps
navigation is free, office in most symbians and those are pretty expensive. bear in mind the price of iphone too

AnonD-3575, 17 Mar 2011first of all, there are still no nokia wp7 phones so we ca... morethe point i was making was that doesnt it seen a waste to spend money on a current nokia smartphone (based on the fact that you may buy lost of apps) knowing that if you want to keep up to date with current smartphone tech you will have to switch to another OS that means that all the money you invest in ur new smartphone apps will be a waste.

me on the other hand have had an iphone 2g 3g and 4 and i am still using the apps i bought originally.

obviously if you dont mind buying your apps again once you get and updated smartphone later on then it doesnt really matter. but i have 100's of apps so wouldnt like to have to buy them all again

It's dated and years behind in almost every aspect.
So the only explanation is blind faith from fanboys. Which can only be translated into Idiotic dones.
Personally I dont care if you or everyone else in the world likes Symbian, nor will I try to get people to abandon it. It's dated and impractical, the sooner you see this the more money you'll save.

Im not a symbian fan either but i like the fact that its less hardware hungry. on symbian its possible to have hdvideo recording with 680MHz cpu and on android not iven all 800MHz dont have HD. even HD2 that has 1GHz proc doenst have HD video recording on WM6.5/6.5.3 or even on android ports WVGA is the highest resolution of the video i thnik.

The other point it thats symbian seems to me little boring outdated and I cant imagen who would get an symbian phone over android.

[deleted post]You know what, you are the one who is stupid here, do we force you to choose symbian huh?.., If you don't like it, then so be it, stick with your beloved android or IOS, we don't really care, we are happy with our symbian devices, specially the NOKIA's products. And besides, why are you here? Do you want us to abandon our beloved symbian? Nah!, try next time, we still enjoy it, we also don't care if nokia will abandon symbian, anyway, if they totally dump it, nokia will make sure that symbian will still be useful even for years. C'mon technology is always changing, lets just enjoy what we have right now, people don't have the same taste, well, some will like IOS, or Android etc., but don't try to force what you'd like with others. Lets just wait what will be the next device that nokia or other phone company will produce in the future, and in the end all of us will benefit from it. Or if you are smart enough and have those resources, then make your own smartphone, lol.

nokia did consider abandoning symbian (after 2-3 years) but they changed their mind
and what changed their mind were satisfied customers and great sales (better than expected)

which company would abandon something like that

like i said, who knows what will be in 2-3 years. most people who are into mobiles buy a new one each year anyway. those who are not, dont care about apps and updates
