The price difference between their own modules and Sony's would be almost negligible given the fact that both are identical, spec-wise. So obviously, the only reason there is that Samsung has opted to use both sensors is because they need to meet demands.

Neither Samsung nor Sony can or want to produce enough sensors to keep up. This is done all the time in tech. Be it processors, sensors, memory, batteries, storage..... Apple does the same. No single manufacturer the size of Samsung would want to bet their ecosystem on a single factory or manufacturer. Just as manufacturers rarely want to bet their entire production on a single product. Big PC OEM's do the same with everything but the processor.

this is a cowardice move by samsung. because they have to mention it in their product but they dont. what if consumers just want to buy the sony one how they able to distinguish that?

Yeah I also always had the better experience with Samsung sensors. I think Samsung are always ordering some from Sony to keep the business relationship and keep them in check to get the best sensors in case Sony comes up with one. So far Samsung had the best smartphone cameras since the very first Galaxy S phone. The S8 is the first one Im concerned about as its technically the same.

I wonder why Samsung's doing this? Because lack of supplies? Why not invest billion dollars for your sensor instead invest to the other company.

we do need to worry ,sony make poor sensors in general i know this from previous experiences. Samsung cameras are much better.i think someone should make a comparison video to see if there is any deference

Why is the Pixel, and even the G5, both using Sony sensors, have much better cameras than the S7 Edge? Even the XZs demolishes the camera of the S8
