Anonymous, 18 Apr 2017These phone companies are removing features to make the pho... moreThat's a terrible excuse. Companies are worth BILLIONS and adding some of those features wouldn't cost them much at all. Mere peanuts. The 3310 has microSD slot, FM radio, removable battery, and headphone jack. It will cost only $50. What's the excuse for $700+ flagships again? Cost cutting?
Look at the leaks for the new Moto Droid Z2. Guess what came back? Headphone jack! So it isn't impossible for companies bring it back or just leave it as is. I used to believe in an underdog like HTC. They pioneered touchscreens and Android. Now, HTC U suck!
We could never be truly wireless anyway. We still need an outlet to do anything with electricity like charging batteries.

Removing 3.5mm jack, sealing batteries and hybrid sim sd slot simply eliminates the flexibility of android.

AnonD-428442, 18 Apr 2017Apple included the lightning to 3.5mm jack with every iPhon... moreNo, the lack of 3.5mm is extremely dumb either way, including an adapter won't make it less ridiculous. You can't charge and listen at the same time and you can also easilly damage your usb port while using your headphones. It makes the phone quite longer, so not only you could damage the port, but it's quite uncomfortable.
I'd never use such a ridiculous phone even if they paid me the price it costs and not the other way around.

Is anyone else seeing how big of an opportunity this year is for the OnePlus 5? They have a chance of making a killing, as there's nothing worth paying for over it, as long as it's as decent as leaks indicate and priced.. well, like a OnePlus phone.

Anonymous, 17 Apr 20173.5 mm is 1980 technology just like Floppy Diskette's. HAHAHHAAHAnd your electrical wires are 1800s technology. Let's just cut out our electricity, because it's old tech...
What kind of ridiculous logic is that?

AnonD-632659, 18 Apr 2017There is utterly no good technical reason to remove the 3.5... moreApple included the lightning to 3.5mm jack with every iPhone 7.
Plus, Motorola removed the 3.5mm jack before Apple. So the trend is there before Apple.
Where HTC failed is that they didn't include any usb-c to 3.5mm jack adapter on the HTC U ultra. Now that's dumb.

HTC quits the only thing they were really good at: making great all around metal phones. Their built quality was their best feature, this thing looks cheap and ugly af, not to mention that this will be one of the most overpriced Android smartphones of the year, I really wanted this phone to be great because The S8/S8+ is really bad looking (for me) and the G6 has SD 821. I currently own a HTC 10 so I'm not any HTC hater, I really love HTC, but the awful and overpriced U ultra and this U-gly phone... makes me really think if they should still be releasing phones or just focus in their HTC vibe (the only HTC device who seems to be successful).

These phone companies are removing features to make the phones less expensive to manufacture: IR, NFC, FM, 3.5 jack all equals additional costs (firmware and hardware).
Of course, if we, as consumers, would stop buying the phones without these features the manufacturers would think about adding them back.
