Nokia gets a facelift: bye to Nokia Sans, hello to Nokia Pure

28 March, 2011
Have you ever thought to what extent a font can change the perception of a company's brand or logo? We guess you might have, but we bet you've never put as much attention into it as Nokia has. And...

chewy, 28 Mar 2011fonts make up 30-50% of most UIs, get the font right and bu... moreI didn't buy an Android phone, coz it got funky fonts!! LOL. wHAT are you talking about??

Fonts don't mean ANYTHING to UIs-- we want speed and smooth scrolling, we want something easier to learn, we want better features, we want more choices. That is why I got an ANDROID phone. Not coz of the font!!

Perfect topic to make all the simpletons posts useless and informative crap again ..
I rather like this to be honest. I'm quite partial to nice fonts, so i give this a +1

Nokia should focus on faster R&D for HARDWARE, so they can slap a 1 ghz cpu on their phones (628 mhz on the n8 is so pathetic). Nokia is sooo way behind.. like Jurassic ages behind SE, Samsung, HTC, etc.

Instead of getting new fonts, Nokia should get ANDROID.

Dressing the old Nokia in a new hood won't change anything whatsoever. While Samsung is burning the midnight oil trying to improve the already superb superAMOLED, while HTC factories are grinding at full throttle, while LG is already churning out duo-core smartphones, while Sony Ericsson....(let me stop;the whiles will never end),Nokia is very busy changing fonts. If this is what happens when Royals are dethroned, I don't wanna be a Royal, oh sorry, a Nokia.

Unlike Nokia's very distinct existing font, this new font is not distinct at all. In fact it is barely distinguishable from the font Microsoft uses on Windows Phone 7 - perhaps no coincidence.

Changing the font is a step in the right direction. Working in wireless industry, many of my clients have commented on how dated the font looked. Every detail is important in the rebranding process.

                                Well done Nokia, what's next?

My words are for all of those who did not like this font step and bad-mouthing it.

If you try to remember, "Change the d@mn font" is one of the most said comment on any Nokia UI, UE related post, so they are changing the d@mn font for us. Why are all these useless cries for than? And it is not like they only have worked on the font creation. It could be one of many things to come, so far they are showing us what we wanted the most.

And as being a (proper) designer I do know how important the font is for the brand. Let's the professionals do their work without distracting them through idiot|c comments. Most of you must have count as "consumer" so just wait for the final thing to come because this is what you are for.

Why all the hate? They aren't claiming this will revolutionize the mobile world or anything, they are just like: "Hey, we're going to change our font, thought you wanted to know." And everyone here is acting like spoiled children. Grow up people.
