WP7 will go second by 2015, iOS and BlackBerry will lose ground

30 March, 2011
The analysts from IDC just published their forecast on the smartphone market development in the next five years. Apparently the company has some sort of crystal ball as we can’t see how else they...

Andres, 31 Mar 2011When there is not a single Nokia device running WP7 on the ... moreI think these analysts are assuming that every Nokia user will convert to the WP platform. I know Symbian have a following but I'm not sure they will transition to WP even if Nokia floods the market with WP next year.

When there is not a single Nokia device running WP7 on the market, I would not only take thus so-called study with a pinch of salt, but a whole sack of it!

IDC will be correct with these predictions. If there one company that can make WP7 popular, it is Nokia. And Nokia isn't dying. Get off the pipe. They are losing ground but are 2-3x a better phone seller than #2. They will continue to be popular in Europe since they are the only European powerhouse in the industry (sorry, Ericsson). Most hardware manufacturers are either Asian or American. The top four OSes by 2015 will all be North American. Nokia can dominate Asia and still be #1 in volume sales. China and India have population in the billions. Indonesia ranks 4th in the world. Asia is the most populated continent and the new frontier on how to expand marketshare. That is fertile ground. Apple will never be bigger than Nokia in Asia or Europe even if Nokia continues to flop in the U.S.A.

This is based on global volume sales and Android and WP7 have multiple OEMs to give them variety. One size doesn't fit all. WP7 is only 4-months old. Give it time to grow. iPhone didn't even have official apps in its first year. Android was still niche in early 2009 when it was only 4-months old. People are still stuck with contracts. Rome wasn't built in a day. By the end of 2012, WP7 will be no worse than Top 3. BlackBerry will become too niche like webOS even if QNX looks superior to all of them. Popularity vs quality doesn't mean the same thing.

To all those that are saying that Symbian is dead, it probably is for high end phones in Nokia handsets where it will be replaced by the Win7 operating system, however all the cheap low end handsets will remain in order to battle the cheap end Android phones. And considering that Nokia low end hand phones are cheap in developing nations like India and China where the population is on the rise, dont think that Symbian will be going away so soon.

[deleted post]Sweety, i just crashed my android phone on the wall coz really SUX! iPhone might be stupid, but at least do and receive calls, even if have problem with the coverage, not like the froyo I had, that was calling anyone, anytime he wants... It was a real huge shit! I'll never buy again an android phone, and if I have to give any prediction I'll say that 'till 2015 or whe world will disappear or android as OS, but I guess the second one it's more probable!

I don't think android will make it much further than 2012. It's too much hype but not a real OS. All this cloud based apps - system isn't going anywhere either. Symbian WILL keep falling, down to a 15% floor or something around that. and iOS won't ever reach even 8% (world).

I never used an iphone until iphone4. Used to hate iphones about their limitation, crappy camera, etc. After using the iphone4 (ditched x10 because had a faulty phone that couldn't charge from day 1), I am attached to the ease of use. however, do I really like it? Looks are rather plain(not much of a desgin). The screen is great when it first came out, but I'm tempted to try a Galaxy. And for @#$$t sake, after so many years, why no flash??!!! If i find a phone as convient as the Iphone4, i might jump ship and switch. Reasons:
other phones have better screen, power and comes with a more intersting design. Doesn't have ridiculous limitations such as no bt transfer, useless facetime on wifi(If I was at home or at a wifi spot, why don't I use a laptop?, since transferring files from the iphone4 is a pain ass already) Windows 7? No! I don't want to go further back in time than the iphone4! Any suggestions on what android phone I should get?

True IOS doesn't have these problems because mainly it runs on one handset build for it, unlike android installed on HTC, Samsung, Motorolla, LG, Sony Ericsson and much more, But if you buy Google Nexus, you wont have any problem at all.
But have you seen the HTC Evo 3D with HTC Sense UI 3.0 and 1.2 GHz Dual Core? now tell me that isn't a pure sex beautiful and smooth device!
