I am a big Sony fan, but I must admit that iphone's camera is better. The images it produced are simply sharper and more detailed. Damn it Sony!

From what I see, iPhone pics are way warmer and XZ Premium pics but that might be configured in gamma settings, and XZ Premium is a winner on long distant scene definition since that's not settings dependable.. Curious for review.
Yah, if event had occurred in Porto all of you would have got lost... in a good way

I check the 1st and 2nd image taken by XZP and iphone.
The result is XZP is more details (you can refer the deck of the ship), but the iphone just capture a blurrrr deck.
The XZP is more contrast than iphone. The flagpoles and it shadows at the dock capture by XZP is more realistic/real live, but iphone just capture a faded/2D flagpoles.
The XZP is retain more color than the iphone. The hull body of the ship at the right-hand side is deep blue colors. The iphone can only capture a yellowish hull body of the deep blue colors.
The foliage is more details and true to real live in XZP, but iphone just capture a mess foliage.
The Rock below the docks is more 3D(I mean realistic) in XZP, but the iphone capture the rocks like an I check the first and second image taken by XZP and iphone.

from my opinion, sony a lot detail but a tiny bit oversharpen than iphone, it between having a bit grainy pixel peeping(sony) or a bit watercolour look pixel peeping(iphone)
about dynamic range, sony improve but iphone still is better
about exposure, (in the beach with stone picture) its either you get properly exposed highlight but darker shadow(sony) or a bit blown highlight but more clear detail in shadow
to me both has it strength and weakness
would like to see video comparison

I'm a Sony fan, but I can't deny I like the photos it takes more than XZp. They are more natural and pleasing to work on, make em as you want em. Thats not the case with latest samsung and sony smartphones. At least Sony fixed the oversaturation and oversharpening on z5 series and i can edit the photos i take more freely.
All and all iphone takes better pictures to work on, when xzp does the edit for you, and mostly fails to have the result you want.

Sony's performance seems in line with what I've experienced with the XZ as well.. Color reproduction is really 2nd to none, absolutely top notch! Quite comparable to my Canon 5D DSLR which is just stunning. Would've been interesting to see more low light shots.

Corner Softening , Over Sharpening ( or a lot of noise) , uneven color balancing or even a bit of purple fringing on the sample with sun reflections on water to the left-corner are the cons (Great Sensor let down by the software department, next year you'll see Chinese doing top notch image processing using the same sensor) I see on some frames from the Xperia XZ Premium. But the close ups and medium range samples look excellent ! about the iPhone 7 Plus, Apple Isn't trying hard on photography since iPhone 5S they've just lost focus with picture quality over features !

Anonymous, 01 May 2017Sony's photos are so inconsistent, dark areas are totally ... moreXperia's always have trouble with dynamic range, and I think that's more to do with the image processing than than the hardware.
I have used both the XZ and iPhone 7 recently (I know, neither of which are the subject of this comparison, but both are good representatives of their respective lines) and its consistently easier to blow out highlights and harder to get information from shadowed areas on the XZ, than it is on the IP7.
I find that detail (if you can live with a healthy amount of noise) and colour reproduction are top notch on something like the XZ, the dynamic range though...that sucks, and the pitiful 'hdr' mode (when it decides to make an appearance at all) does nothing to help.
