A good drop test should be atleast 4 camcorders capture the scene at the same time by placing the first camcorder for record the heights, another 3 camcorders for the floor to stimulate a super slow motion from 3 dimensions to avoid fake videoing.
Must have the front drops, back drops, 2 top corner drops, 2 bottom corner drops, 4 side drops and atleast must have 3 different height from sit heights, pocket heights and stand heights.
If possible must test to fling the phone to hit the wall to get a continues drop test, to test the continues crash limit.
Btw, Bragging the drop test shouldn't use a 50 drops or simply 100 drops to show it. I suspect this could be from the Samsung's
marketing strategy.

zodiacfml, 04 May 2017No plans to buy the S8 but to their defense, it seems that ... moreYes, there is just that one corner which has risk, that also with an impact at that point, but it exists nonetheless, else s8 or s8plus is durable. Anyone would normally buy case either way, & yes flat Samsung will be as tough like g6 it's just that curve.

No plans to buy the S8 but to their defense, it seems that there is a small weak spot in the S8. The rig they are using finds this weak spot eventually through multiple drops. Drop tests from Youtube shows it can withstand common drops as good as the iPhones.

AnonD-507364, 04 May 2017As far as build quality is concern, no one beats the mighty... moreI'd have to partially disagree.
Samsungs were very durable, until the point when they started curving the glass, which unfortunately has been around for a few generations already.
I've had an HTC One M7, the original one, and yes, that thing was indestructable. However, my brother also still has one, and after all these years the camera protection glass has cracked and fallen out.
I also have a Galaxy Note 3, which has a flat glass, not curved. And that thing has fallen hard so many times, and still lives with only a few scratches here and there.
I surely hope LG doesn't make the same mistake as Samsung with curving the glass. I was really hoping to get LG V30. But if they screw up, there's also HTC U 11 and a Pixel 2 XL coming up.

Odyssey, u r right, & that's what we are saying it's corner curved bezeless means fragile, & corning glass has only scratch resistance.
I must admit s8 & s8plus is a beautiful device, the vertical screen just grows on you, did anyone notice indirectly Samsung has a mini s8 (5.8) who's screen width matches 4.7" in 16:9 ratio and s8plus matches 5.5" screen. Just like iPhone 7 and 7 plus screen size only 7 plus is way wider.

Not surprised.
Sami you need to aim for and deliver MILT STD 810G on your high end phones.
Just IP 68 is not enough any more.

I think that the ways to test the resistance of Smarthphones should be unified...
Falling Front and Profile...From 80 cms., from 120 cms. and from 180 cms.
And then award a score for each successful drop...From 1 to 10 points, and add.

AnonD-507364, 04 May 2017As far as build quality is concern, no one beats the mighty... moreI'd call myself a fan of Samsung, currently have an S8+ and before an S6 Edge+, but I'd never deny that HTC has good build quality.
My previous phone was a HTC One M7 and that thing was built like a tank. Had to use it recently while having my S6 repaired and that is an incredibly solid phone. Samsung make nice looking devices, but I wouldn't call them sturdy.

Anonymous, 04 May 2017And will be scratched heavily after a week of use, because ... moreYou got option of using glass/plastic protector which you can change whenever, point is shattered screen will not be at your fingertips just because you don't want to pay for exchange. It's main reason you can see phones like that everywhere, or in your hand.

As far as build quality is concern, no one beats the mighty HTC. HTC phones are as durable as the rock.
I know samsung fanboys will deny this

S8 is very fragile, you can see that from the pictures... The screen is good looking but not very practical for every day life. Also S6 Edge and S7 Edge are extremely unpleasent devices in case you drop them. That's why I prefer LG G6.

Some people in the comments section find anything to complain about:
If I see a thick bezeled flatscreen LCD TV fall off a table counter and see an equivalant bezelless curved AMOLED UHD TV fall off the same counter - how on Earth do I come to the conclusion the bezelless one has deliberately been cheapened and call FRAGILE-GATE for having an edgy (pun intended ;) ) design.
Clear case of form over function, anyone with the ability to rationalize logically would know less bezel = increased susceptibility to corner damage regardless of whether their rounded or edged. Most damage comes from the vibrations upon impact alone as well as structure-and-frame flexing. Any glass component placed against structures exposed to deformation will splinter/crack/shatter.
I hope one day someone can develop the perfect mix between the shatterfroof-ness of plastic and scratch-resistence of glass.
