The Mi5 uses the SA9018k2m, the best available DAC at the time. The LG V20, uses the SA9028Q2M. Again, the best DAC you can buy at the time. These are the same DACs they use in $2000 home theatre systems, top class studio sound cards, etc. DACs really aren't that expensive, and in a competitive smartphone world they often put in the best.

This is a sad trend. It is unfortunate that phone manufacturers are trying to copy Apple without considering the needs of the consumer.
Floppy disc had something better to replace it. But the headphone jack is still a very good option for better sound output.

Say there are 2 phones, 1 with headphone jack and another one without headphone jack.
The phone with headphone jack has 3000mah battery capacity. The phone without headphone jack has 3350mah battery capacity.
Say, the phone 1 has 6hrs sot with media running.
And you can use your headphone (with wire)
Phone 2 has 6hrs 30m with media running with headphone connected to the phone via the adaptor.
Person wants less wires to carry so he buys a Bluetooth headset. Now the phone 2 gives only 6hrs sot and Bluetooth headset only 5hrs?
Who wants to sacrifice everything for the mere 350mah battery and waste your time charging your headset and phone. Or carrying your adaptor and loosing it somewhere everytime.
Don't bash me with comments. This is just my theory against those companies removing the headphone jack ( see apple wanted to sell airpods and gain profit so they removed headphone jack, why are you guys removing the jack for silly reason?)

Let me worry about battery life

Sure, it can help fix distorted soundwaves, but are they capable of having a proper high end DAC to give the user an amazing audio experience?
Smartphones are still far from the quality of audio jack of PCs and some other sound equipments, but it's a big shame to go worse than what we have today with smartphones
LG V20, HTC 10, ans Axon 7 - all of them are well-applauded for phenomenal glory hole quality, but I never heard the iPhone 7/7+ or U Ultra being praised for the same with USB C headphone jack (what "glory hole" to me means)
