Poor HTC. They worked hard to move from an OEM making devices for everybody else to one of the top smartphone brand, but then they failed to nurse their own brand and now they are being overrun by Samsung (who has more money can can release dozens of devices to saturate all customer segments) and by the Chinese (who beat them in cost and selling price).

Really feel bad for HTC. They had the chops, but then they seem to lose focus. They should follow Sony, and focus on their own fans. But it might be too late. Even the Taiwanese are not buying HTC.

Sony and htc with their huge bezels, even with a good hardware they are failing coz the phones look bad.
Why dont they experiment with it a lil bit.
Look how successful samsung got with the edge design.
I would definitely prefer an htc flagship if they didnt make it so ugly.
Just look at this link below:

Htc 10 looks like something made by "micromax"
    Just an opinion.

      Help This Company....

Well, the article almost said it all. Just adding the quite high price of the U Ultra, plus all the critics & the super tough competition. But now let's see what the U 11 will offer and so eventually what it will happen. Hopefully it won't include any gimmicks with the touch-sensitive frame & hopefully it will have a quite competitive price.

Omar, 09 May 2017But htc makes better phone than lg, no one knows any phone'... moreJust FYI name recognition does not equal quality. Many recent HTC phones have been recognized for their wtf decisions. LG phones have been getting quite a bit of praise overall, they just oversaturated their low to mid market devices...so you only really hear about the G and V series.

HTC phones are better than Samsung, Apple, Sony, LG ? Mostly in one aspect they are even worse - like sometimes camera. Often they are comparable but ... they are not cheaper and nowadays more people are appreciated other companies so if your product is the same or a little worse you cant try be more expensive.
We still have companies such as Huawei, their products almost equal competition to mentioned above and prices are ... more attractive. HTC must have if not better as Samsung, iPhone, LG products, same sort of stuff...and they CANT be more expensive, especially since HTC dosnt offer anything beyond hardware (see Apple and their iStuff). Hardware the same as Samsung, Sony, and pricey ... same as / at most- Huawei or ... there is no place for HTC on the market. And yet...there are companies like Xiaomi and OnePlus - here HTC also loses. The same true with average and lower price part of market...cheaper phones ? Samsung, Samsung (as in the past Nokia), a lil LG, Huawei and many different Chinese companies.
Any chance? Yes ... for example - Good phones that have no cut out like ... radio, 3.5mm jack, replaceable battery.Good, quick, long support, no bootloader lock. Or maybe ... take places of Compact series and show a 4.7 to 5 inch top-of-the-line phone, a well-made competitor of a different size. If not, then their place will take a little bit of Samsung, Huawei and cheap Chinese brands. Maybe alliance with Nokia (HMD) and own OS (MeeGo) or better version of Android/HTCNokiaMOD?

Omar, 09 May 2017But htc makes better phone than lg, no one knows any phone'... moreThe only reason people know about the U Ultra is because of its use of space. That is to say, terrible

I would love to see make a comeback into profits.
But as you will see from my posts on here I have been saying for a lo g time that HTC's problems got realy bad once they stopped reading what folk on xdaforum had to say, very many of whom bought their devices outright with their own hard earned cash..
They do innovate, but every single HTC device since the HD2 has had a compromise somewhere that ends up ruining a great device, usually done for price,be it licence fees or hardware availability or cost.
"old" BoomSound was brilliant,so what did they do,ruin it,instead of making it a feature of more and more of their family..
They tried the Samsung route of bringing out more and more models, hoping some would sell well, that didn't work.
they over price because they saw Apple could, but HTC buyers are a total different kettle of fish from Apple buyers.that didn't work.
How many folk want/need sapphire screen,it's very pricey and will never trickle down to most phones.
I could go on about their mistakes but won't,we know what they are.
Reviewers give good reviews of their devices, but then public don't buy..
A bit of free advice to HTC,start learning what your customers realy want, not keep trying things that few want/need..
Now,shall we start guessing what the compromise will be on the 11,apart from the price and no 3.5 jack ?
Because it will have a major one.

the lack of direction to more profitable smartphones has been the problem with htc for years now...htc only succesfull device was the one m8 ..the u ultra should be the nail in the coffin.

Htc makes a big mistake by removing 3.5mm audio jack from their high end devices, and their flagship phones are very overpriced also. htc u ultra costs more than $700 but no headphn jack, no amoled display, only 3000mAh battery, no waterproofing or wireless charging. So what will be a selling point for htc u ultra ?? only the secondery display ??? no man....

AnonD-654964, 09 May 2017- Lg g4,g5,nexus 5x. I'm not talking about the g6. I am tal... more-G4 is the only device above defects that can be mentioned...to which LG took responsibility...they performed a recall.
-Touchwiz was bad, the new UI is better, not great really but better. The S8 is designed as such because the S7 edge was more popular than the S7, therefore, they followed the market. Physical design is primarily personal preference, but those edges are fragile.
-Sony is showing improvements in their camera processing (See XA1 review) and acknowledging that it was not the best, especially for the company that develops the sensors for so many other brands, you'd think they'd already have it down by now.
-Apple is superb at marketing, the phones aren't bad, there is a market for simplicity, apparently a large one.
-HTC is the subject here, and they have some bad management and business practices to work through, they were great, but seem to have gotten utterly lost.

I am talking about their poor customer service and their refusal to take responsibility for their errors. At least samsung acknowledged the note7 fiasco. My friends ask me why I dont recommend LG, its because their refusal to take responsibility. I know they can resolve the bootloop for future devices but their customer service disgusts me. My sister had a g4.
                              - On my experience I had the s3 and s5 and after a year it slows down the phone because of touchwiz. +1 because they tried to improve it, but by now i dont like the s8 because they took away the flat screen. Edge is too fragile and the glass breaks easily.
                              - I just dont like sony phones, their camera software is crap and megapixel gimmick. 23mp grainy photo? I know you can tweak it but I like point and shoot for cameras. + I hate those huge bezels and plain box type design. And they are starting to price their phones like HTC.
                              - Apple is for those uneducated end-users.
                              - You cant say I love HTC. I just criticized them for the U Ultradumb and not listening to customers. We dont have to be fans of anything. After all those companies are after our money.

I think they have horrible leadership sabotaging them from the inside, because we know they used to have great engineers, judging by their past products. Now, it feels like someone there should be stopping the phones coming out asap and going back to the drawing board, as for the past few years they have been releasing only money drains that were obvious not to sell the second the first leaks appeared. Not only are their phones generic and looking like several year old mid rangers, they are taking away any potential selling points and adding features that are completely not appealing Which is genuinely sad, as HTC used to be legendary, making extremely competitive devices.

Going by their decisions in phones for the past few years I hope they just stick to the Vive and continue being good at it, moving things forward in that exciting market. For smartphones they went from one of the best companies to one probably the most behind the times. I miss the times of the Nexus One, even the One S/X. Back then they literally made people choose between their phones and the newest Galaxies, as they stood up to them really that well. Something happened right after that.

The 11 will have to be a strong, competitive contender with a lot of new and useful features to really stand out in the market.

Hopefully they will pull it off so the end customers profit the most.

Every single other brand you attempted to bash literally have improved if not completely corrected the flaws you mentioned (AnonymouseX covered it so I wont here). HTCs issue is that either they are poorly informed on the market, and release phones that aren't really flagship worthy, but at flagship prices...or the losses in sales create a need for premium pricing to keep profitability up, which in turn is the coffin for them, as if it is that, it can quickly turn into a death spiral, unless they find better suppliers for parts, or change markets entirely. Also of note, that there are bashers, and there are critics, critics are needed, critique means people want something to succeed, not fail.

They need to stop using mediatek processors and start watching what other OEM's are doing...Dumping the 3,5mm jack was dumb thing to do, also not having the metal unibody, front facing speakers, or any other things like that....I really hope this U 11 helps them to get a bit out of problems so that they can continue with work...they also need to start listening to their customers and smartphone consumers...by only that way they can get better and pull themselves out...Samsung had problems with battery in Note 7 and they've apologized publicly for that shortly after the problem came to life
