viveksubhash, 14 May 2017essentially the taller screens like s8 have a 5.2 inch like... moreI tbought because the s8 & G6 had these tall screens, watching a movie in landscape would give large black bars on either side due to the incorrect ratio. I believe the only advantage of the tall screens is when viewing web pages or navigating the OS

I would opt for 5 inch but it's not a choice here so I voted 5.2 inch instead. I am happy with my 5 inch screen from my Lumia 930.

Between 4.7 and 5.1 in'. Hoping for a 5 inch small bezels 1080p phone soon :( (with latest specs).

essentially the taller screens like s8 have a 5.2 inch like width right?? i like bingewatching movies..so the extra screen width in landscape helps..i think..i have yet to try them out

Max 5" and max 1080p! The rest should be tablet. And the ones who can't see anything on such screens, need glasses.

I think 140mm x 70mm would be a great size, whatever the most screen that could be accommodated within that size which I'm guessing could be up to 5.3".

I do not like this 2:1 thing.
Movies are 21:9, TV content is 16:9, games are 16:9. Nothing is 18:9.
G6 has smaller screen than 6p. Maybe even less than G4. S8 the same, less screen than Note 7.
I want a 5.2 " screen when body is 14 cm, not 5,5" for 13,7cm. It is ugly.
S8 is pretty ugly compare to S6E+ , S7E and N7.

between 4.5 and 5 inch is best, why is there no option, like you have 5.2, 5.5, 5.7, 6, over 6 but no sub 5.

Screen size doesn't really matter to be honest, it is the PHONE SIZE is what matters. You don't need a large screen size when you bring your phone out of your home for any outings (shopping, school, working etc.). At home, you could use a secondary phone or a tablet for larger screen size for video watching, streaming etc. (you DON'T NEED to do that outside).
For phone size, my ideal phone size is somewhere in between a regular iPhone 7 to an iPhone 7 Plus. Regular iPhone 7 is perfect for my style of hand use but I feel it could be bigger for ideal case and iPhone 7 Plus is just too overly huge in phone size (not screen size) for me. (Note: I would say my hand size is above average)
So IDEALLY, I want a phone in size in the range stated above with 100% screen-to-body ratio, which determine the ideal screen size FROM the IDEAL PHONE SIZE. - that would be at least 5.8 inches screen size into the body of a slightly larger iPhone 7 (not iPhone 7 Plus), probably more than 6.0 inches screen size could be achieved with 100% screen-to-body ratio.

Where is 5.0"? U may say it is obsolete and mostly smaller versions are 5.2". But 5.2 isn't chosen by consumers, it's standardized phone makers and then ppl accepted it because smaller than 5.2" flagship wasn't available. Still, Google offers its smaller phone in 5.0" size, and bestsellers like S4, Mi4, Xperia Z are 5.0". Actually, unless footprint is good for me, it doesn't matter what) that it's 5.0 or 5.2. Like in case of Mi5. But most 5.2" phones significantly bigger than Mi5 and it is more closer to s4 and oneplus X in size. There is always a strong demand for compact droids (now its fading though) but looks like gsmarena don't want to "hear a world about less than 5.2".

Smaller body and bigger screen, this is the answer.
SONY: Customers do not need BIG bezels! Do you?
APPLE: Did you forget what innovation means? So, get out the front, and follow the leaders!
SAMSUNG: Back to FLAT screens - Curves are beautiful in women bodies, but useless in a cell phone.
ONEPLUS: Invest a little more in design, but no curves in the screen, please. Be original.
LG: You are in the right way. Try a LG G6 with same concept, same width, but not too tall.
HUAWEI: Come to the US.

I vote for 5.2 because it's the much smaller option in here lol, But I prefer a 4 to 4.8 inches like my Z5 Compact or any Xperia compact phones also with the likes of iPhone SE, 6 and 7, pocket friendly and much easier to use one hand, Sony and Apple are the few companies that make a good spec compact phones.

Screen size is becoming less of an issue these days. The ideal poll would be for the most ideal footprint size. For me, the most ideal footprint size is the size of the iPhone 7 Plus, Galaxy S8+, or the Huawei Mate 9.
