HTC got the camera and the audio right, but that pesky headphone jack spoils the fun for some.

Just as I was sold on an idea of a metal clamshell U11, with a sole negative being a missing headphone jack, here comes an all-glass device and chalks a yet another '-' on the board.

Well, even though I love HTC phones, they never fail to introduce something/modify an element which makes me double think their offer and ultimately choose another brand.
Fault one here is the lack of the audio jack. I suppose I could live without it tho.

But I really hate the glossy, mirror back in U11. Why oh why did they need to change their former awesome, elegant designs.

I love the edge sense squeeze function. I can't for the life of me figure out why some people are calling it a useless gimmick. It is so easy and convenient to be able to call up the camera and take a picture with one hand in about 2 seconds from the time you think "I want to take a picture". HTC should have debut released this phone in the northern hemisphere winter in cold countries. Then filmed a commercial with people fumbling with phone cameras in their thick gloved hands while the next person just grabs his or her phone in their pocket and squeezes twice to get a picture off.

Unfortunately, you cannot get wifi calling nor HD calling on AT&T with the U11. Even though they advertise that they support these features, AT&T blocks it on all unlocked Android devices.
I sent my U11 back after finding this out after four hours with AT&T tech support.

I've yet t spend quality time with the U11, so I can say one way or the other if I am a fan. However, I am a HTC fan.

Anonymous, 18 Jun 2017Your post sounds good but you are dead wrong on 2 things.. ... moreSo let me get this straight: 16:9 (1.77:1), which is the universal for high-definition television and European digital television is irrelevant because 21:9 is what they record film in. The fact that videos that one can download are all 16:9 is also irrelevant? The fact that if you watch a 16:9 video you have black bars that look like bezels. Whilst 18:9 may become a standard in the future, it will be more than 2 to 5 years from now before it is adopted is unlikely (which is the lifespan of the average cellphone!)

As to the 3.5mm plug we are talking about a 19th century technology which was originally 1/4" then reduced to 3.5mm (1/8") in the 1950's. With the 3.5mm plug the DAC is on the phone side whereas when using a digital type connector (USB Type-C) the DAC is moved externally into what are commonly called "active" or digital speakers. As I said the 3.5mm connector is a very "old fashioned" solution.

Never compare HTC to cheap Chinese companies such as One Plus!!

All tests showed it to be the fastest device. Faster than the S8+ and iPhone7 Plus. Renders apps, internet, you name it, really really fast. I'm buying it, 6 GB RAM 128 GB ROM, black colour (because red one still elusive).

HTC should go for aggressive pricing like OnePlus to get blockbuster success.

Frankly after having all (from Apple, Samsung, and LG) I need to say that HTC does not let me down with their sound quality in their flagships, their impeccable software without glitches , and now stunning camera possibilities... I have bought the htc10, and now being proud owner of u11, there's no mobile phone I would exchange it with (whether bezels are not visible or not).
Thank you HTC for listening and delivering!

AnonD-207576, 18 Jun 2017Yep, the HTC U11 is a posers phone! I guess it depends on... moreYour post sounds good but you are dead wrong on 2 things..

                                        1. The reason for 18:9 ratio are closer to cinema movie experience.. Movies are shot in 21:9 aspect ration not 16:9 so if you are watching movies on a TV they will have black bars top and bottom.. 18:9 ratio is also useful for on screen buttons.. Hide and peek on screen buttons on 16:9 are just plain nuisance.. 18:9 solves that.. Lastly there is the simple screen to surface area of a phone.. By using 18:9 ratio Samsung maximizes the screen area without increasing the size of the phone..

                                        2. There is no way for a human ear to hear digital sound.. Your ear is analog. Whatever digital signal your phone produce must pass through a DAC and it is better to have the DAC inside your phone for consistent performance.. Digital output will have to depend on whatever tiny DAC they put on the tiny earphone cable.. That equates to worse audio quality unless you use a high performance USB DAC like the audiophiles do
