The king is back! Live long htc.

AnonD-207576, 18 Jun 2017Yep, the HTC U11 is a posers phone! I guess it depends on... moreThat is an excellent intelligent comment.
The old fashioned analog lack is no bother to me either. It's taken care of and the results are brilliant. The sound so professional on the U 11. OMG, can't believe how nice I have craved a camera like this. I think I can put my Canon away on some trips. Sexy dam phone. Well done HTC.

HTC has always been known for their build quality, having manufactured smartphone devices for other brand names since the 1990's (Compaq Ipaq, Palm Pilot, Google Nexus & Pixel) so I doubt their build quality is in question. As far as I know they haven't manufactured any tanks, yet. That said, neither have One Plus, Axon or Honor from all accounts.

HTC U11 attracting very long comments. Long may it live! One of my favorite manufacturers

Bebe Rexha, 18 Jun 2017Yes we do need to take care of flagships, but it doesn't me... moreYou obviously haven't tried the U11!
I have found the camera to be brilliant, the sound superior, the display excellent and the price is at that level which is much less than the top end phones (Samsung, iPhone, Motorola, Sony) although it is up there quality wise.
The phones you mention are good mid range phones, no question, but performance wise not quite in the league of the top flagships.
Talking quality, one thing I have noticed with my U11 is the improvement in reception of both WiFi and cellphone signal. I now have reception in places I previously had none with a number of other top end phones (and lower end).
It is £600 in the UK for the HTC U11 and the S8 and iPhone 7 are now in the same region having been up to a couple of hundred more at launch.

Very much excited to get my hands on U11 Solar Red... Im definitely loving this smartphone. Htc U got me ;) ... Plus it makes me so happy that majority of the people are loving the U11 just like me :)

Looks like a nice phone but screen and battery are too small. I worry about the longevity of the device.
                /End of comment.

                  S7 Edge has 15.1 cm
                  U11 has 15.4 cm

It has same buttons of S7.

People only complain about u11 size.
I do not see people complain about Galaxy A ( less than 70% STB) or Moto phones.

Seriously, between HTC U11 and Sony Xperia Premium, I will pick HTC anytime of the day.
They deserve to win especially on the camera department.

AnonD-234961, 18 Jun 2017So the colored glass back of the phone is now a "feature" ?Well it's built differently than any other glass back...which is how they get the two colour finish (the Red + Gold one looks AMAZING imo), so I guess it's a feature...in the sense of the definition.

More so than the Edge screen (present on MANY other handsets) or the crazy high screen-to-body ratio (also on other handsets). Don't forget Edge Sense which has been called "a useful gimmick" by many reviewers....which makes NO SENSE, AT ALL. If it's useful then it's not a gimmick...end of story.

AnonD-402029, 18 Jun 2017i never sit with my phone in my pocket..flagship isnt cheap... moreYes we do need to take care of flagships, but it doesn't mean that manufacturers should build them cheaply, otherwise they would've cost less.

It's only $600 because its build quality is a far cry from a $700 phone, not even more than $400 when the $450 OnePlus 3T and $400 Axon 7 and Honor 8 are built like a tank and cost $150 and $200 less, respectively.

Yep, the HTC U11 is a posers phone!
I guess it depends on what you want it for?
Personally I buy for the features and performance and to be honest, the U11 ticks those boxes admirably.
The two big talking points in the the media has been the 'old fashioned' bezels and the lack of the 3.5mm audio socket. When one looks at it logically, they really are non issues and I'll explain why.
The smaller bezels on the S8 and the LG are banking on the adoption of a 18:9 screen aspect ration and when one looks back at the length it took to get the 16:9 from the 4:3, we shall be waiting a long time, if ever! The fact that to change to the 18:9 aspect ratio also is dependent on all TV and computer screen manufacturers also adopting it (interesting that both phone manufacturers are also TV & computer monitor manufacturers and both are Korean - a ploy to sell more TV's?) It should also be factored in the the current video market is governed by a standard aspect ratio which is 16:9! The fact that the media has been conned by the hype put out by Samsung & LG that bezels "are so last year", "old fashioned", etc when in fact there isn't really much you can do with 18:9 when 16:9 covers all the bases! The gullible media!
Next we come to the 3.5mm socket issue (or non issue). Oh boy media - now you change your tune from bezels being old fashioned yet rant on about an outdated (yep - old fashioned!) connector - makes you look like total hypocrites! For the audio officianados out there who state that 'valve sound' is superior to digital sound, fine, stay with your valve amps with 3.5mm (and larger) jack plugs. Somewhere along the line the media have forgotten that the cellphone (smartphone) is a digital device and the 3.5mm was designed for analogue sound - it needs to be digital at this point to get the device to a handheld size! To use a 3.5mm jack plugged device needs a DAC (digital to analogue converter) so the 'pure' sound has been corrupted in the conversion anyway. The same arguments were put forward when the CD was introduced.
The U11 utilises some of the benefits of digital sound and makes them features such as acoustic (3D) sound, active noise cancelling etc, some of which require a connector capable of driving these enhanced features.
As to how "brittle" the phone is, depends, really, on the user. I tend to not throw my phone around or handle it carelessly. I always clad my phones in some sort of suitable protective case. My previous phone was metal and I had it in a protective rubber (silicone?) case and it still looks as good as it did on day 1!
After trying the S8 and iPhone 7, I splashed out on the U11, put it in a Beyeah clear case and have a phone that does everything I want, plus more, for a lot less than either the Samsung or Apple would have cost me.

Anonymous, 18 Jun 2017The lack of 3.5 mm jack is annoying. But what really concer... morei never sit with my phone in my pocket..flagship isnt cheap, so we need to take care of it, arent we? if you afraid too much, rugged phone like galaxy active is suitable for you then

AnonD-234961, 18 Jun 2017So the colored glass back of the phone is now a "feature" ?Well, maybe not? And everyone can refer to it as they want. But the bottom line is simple, when you (in general) buy something (in this case a phone/flagship) you buy the whole package, with everything included (obviously the price as well). So finally the more things (let's call everything as a thing, for the example) it has to in some sort attract more that customer (customers) the more chances it will have to be sold. So based on that context/criteria, yes it is.

Oh good, a final overall meritorious result. What's more, regarding the lack of the 3.5mm jack, it's definitely not positive, but on the other hand, definitely not a complete deal breaker neither. In other words (for example), if someone will tell me (as question), listen, how you'll prefer it, with or without the headphone jack? I will definitely and without hesitating answer, absolutely YES with the headphone jack! But on the other hand, if there's a phone that I like and want but that unfortunately doesn't have it, I will buy it anyway. A practical example, is regarding the S8 (duo), I definitely wanted (1) with the embedded fingerprint scanner in the display tech, or AT LEAST ordinary, back centered. (2) dual stereo speakers. (3) 6GB RAM & much more..., but it doesn't have non of those and more (not the China,SKorea exclusive), and I knew it already from the live launching, but finally I bought it anyway (important to honestly say as well, that although I'm still criticize & hope for the Note 8). Moving on, maybe we can complain as well for not having the bezels like the S8 duo, G6, etc. And about its performance in the JerryRig video and so on. But finally overall, it's a very good flagship competitor. Unique features such as the liquid glass back panel, the Edge Sense, but most of all, its excellent camera and audio performance. So overall, well done to HTC anyway.
