Nokia moves 3000 Symbian devs, to lay off 4000 other employees

They move them to Accenture, where they will do the same job, only they will do it for Accenture instead of Nokia. The difference is that, once the Symbian project will be shut, Accenture will be free to fire them.
So Nokia is actually firing them.

Nokia really has 3000 people working on Symbian OS ? Are they all on holidays or what ? So many highly paid developpers for such a crappy and unpractical OS, no wonder Nokia is going bankrupt.
And still cannot understand why now they choose Windows instead of Android, which is free and fast becoming the first OS for phones in the world. Because the new Nokia boss is coming from Microsoft, of course. Big mistake, two turkeys do not make an eagle.

I am one of the technology lover and has been investing lot of time, energy, effort and money on many devices.
I, myself personally tested all the devices, OSs like Blackberry OS, iOS, Windows, Symbian OS. (most of its versions too).
But I found the Symbian in the BEST in terms of user friendly, compatibility and performance. The disadvantages of this OS is very little.
To my personal opinion, NOKIA MUST HAVE CONCENTRATED TO REMOVE THE FLAWS OF SYMBIAN and it would have soon found itself the the leader in the market.
This kind of unemployment would never happen....So bad Nokia....!!!

this signs Nokia's death certificate. And my14 years wedding with Nokia, starting with the 909. Was planning to buy X7 but not anymore. Elop should be investigated, he may be an implant. The EU, should save symbian.

AnonD-2486, 27 Apr 2011I think this is the best decision nokia has ever made... cu... morewhy are u trying to stick like a logo on nokia phones............ we are customers and fans not their "servants" to be "loyal" to them............we are customers so we can go wid other companies whenever we want to, if they do not stand up to our expectations ........... even i am a nokia fan and respect their good quality phones..........ive very rarely used any other brand...........i want nokia to improve...... but these unwanted decisions are disappointing me and forcing to go to android ...........

First of all, I hate WP7. All Nokia needed to do was launch a symbian phone with a FWVGA (or qHD) display and a dual core processor(and also AF cameras). And I am sure it would have tackled Android and iOS. I would've bought it any day. But i dont know what came to their mind and they chose Windows Crap 7. I mean you cant even share files over bluetooth. Moreover no expandable memory, no divX Xvid support, no flash support in browser and no multitasking (for now). I can't believe they dumped symbian for this thing.

AnonD-2486, 27 Apr 2011I think this is the best decision nokia has ever made... cu... moreI second that. I had no idea that nokia had 7000 symbian devs. But still managed to do almost nothing to make it look cool. But I am not totally against symbian. It very easy to use and totally flawless (at whatever it has in it).

Nokia articles always get the most comments. Now, this sux, there's just no 2 ways around it. I'm patiently awaiting the arrival of a (Preferably Intel) Meego phone. The longer they wait, the more competition moves ahead. HURRY UP NOKIA/INTEL/PANASONIC/AAVA/HUAWEI!!! Bring out a customer based Meego phone!

I am a symbian user (i.e I am currently using a symbian phone, an S^3). And I truely feel that symbian needs to retire as soon as possible. It just can't advance. Its biggest flaw is its limitation of nHD resolution. Hardware might see a lift to a probable snapdragon processor and a 1 gigs of ram but whats the use??? Neither does symbian has many good devs to make use of that nor does nokia has the potential to make the OS use that kind of resource by doing a complete UI overhaul. Symbian^3 was a dissappointment. All I can feel new is the Album Flow thingy. Then after waiting more that a couple of months, all they can do is to change the menu icons??? What?? And fixing the default browser a bit. Is that all...?? Isn't this damn obvious that people like me are running after android now. Symbians dead, nokia can't revive it and WinMo7 is their last chance to keep the name nokia alive. Am bored of symbian....really....

Really disappointed in Nokia right now, the phone that they produce is good and simple, clean interface, no lagging and most important "Functional and practical". Even though I'am loving android, I cant turn away from Symbian, the practicality is just to perfect for me as until today.
Hoping Symbian Anna got update and more coming from the Symbian. Don't let it die.

I just don't understand all this rush in killing off Symbian! The platform has endured the test of time. There's something really fishy here.

Sad... but makes sense, Symbian and MeeGo developers are not needed when MS handles the development.

I think this is the best decision nokia has ever made... cuz there are lots of lazy developers in symbian who just take salary and don't work for symbian they are the main cause for what symbian is today!!! By removing these developers nokia's money would be eventually saved and can invest that money in making high end processor/mobile devices. I was a loyal fan of nokia and i am a loyal fan and i will be loyal fan of nokia 4ever!!!

Now am feeling very sad.. I had planned to buy a symbian smartphone next month, after reading this i will never going to make that mistake.. Nokia taking wrong steps at wrong time... Symbian future is limited to 150million units.. After that....? I love symbian but nokia doesn't, I hate windows phone but nokia loves it.. This is the current situation of a nokia customer..

- 3000 workers outsourced to Accenture (where nobody will notice them, if they are laid off)
- 150 million symbian based phones in the upcoming years: well Nokia manufactured more than 120 million devices in Q4/2010 only
It is pretty clear where this journey is heading to.
