OnePlus 5 caught cheating on multi-core benchmarks

21 June 2017
The way it cheats is similar but not quite the same as the OnePlus 3 before it.

I found this about the zoom:

OnePlus also appears to be cheating with the Zoom or Tele multiplication factor. The pictures and their advertising make us believe we're looking at a 2x Optical Zoom/magnification, but the actual EXIF reports both lens modules with a 4.1 mm real focal length, which because of the different sensor sizes translates into 24mm & 32mm equivalents respectively for f1.7 16MP primary & f2.6 20MP Telephoto camera, or at 1.33x Optical Zoom. In other words, the EXIF suggests that OnePlus by default also applies a 1.5x digital zoom (upsampling) to achieve the factor 2. Which is quite misleading too as benchmark cheating.

AnonD-238991, 21 Jun 2017oneplus is trying too much to please everyone... i was thin... moreI have to disagree my friend.
I can afford buying an iPhone, but I'll pick the one plus over it anyday.
I don't like Apple's closed system, I feel it's poor when it comes to functioning as a phone but great as a tablet.

I personally do not mind the OP design because Apple's phones look very pleasing. Besides, OP is cheaper, smarter, and comes very close to vanilla android. That's why I really like it.

OP covers are a win for me and because of them my phone looks different and stands out, so this cover up for iPhone looks, although it doesn't bother me.

I currently own HTC U11, LG G6, and looking forward for the OP 5, I'll sell the rest and keep the OP 5.

HTC U11 is the best android phone I have used period. If you can afford it go for it.

It's seems that they even made false or call it unclear advertaisement too:

Search in google or other finder: OnePlus 5 doesn't have 2x Lossless Optical Zoom it's actually 1.33x

            News are running

Carl Pei answered: Update: Carl Pei(OnePlus Co-founder) confirmed this via Twitter that OnePlus 5 doesn't have 2x Optical Lossless Zoom & they're not advertising 2x Lossless Zoom anymore

To stage it, and make it only possible in benchmark apps itself.. its deceiving and dirty.

Don't tell me you buy phones just to brag to people how fast its points are, instead of actually using it? And attribute its lagging to the "multi-task" nature? While clearly the fault is the CPU / GPU throttling because of reaching its thermal limit, either due to bad software or bad phone build?

Anonym, 22 Jun 2017**All of them**, unless you don't know english and mistake ... moreYou really don't know what to say, right. Benchmarks are also up to. None of my phones got the same numbers as the benchmark tests I have seen online, with the same phone. Using the same app and same phone, also give up to. So yeah, it seems like you don't know English or anything about phones. All tests are theory and about the numbers, not the actual numbers. Even two identical computers can give different benchmark numbers.

I've personally never considered this as cheating.. Benchmarks are meant to show the performance of the device when pushed to the max limit.. So putting the system into the highest possible mode at time of benchmarks seems fair to me..
If it was being overclocked for benchmarks then that would be cheating i believe..
