The design of the phone must be balance to adsorb drop impact from all edges. If the frame is Metal the front is Glass and the back cover is Plastic, when drop damage the front and back material hardness level is not balance, so it must be have one side gonna be broke. Conclusion, the onmi-balance designs is the most solid and durable and the material balancing.
Most of the drop impact is happen damages on the top and the bottom of the bezel, that's why the bezel is important for resistant from drop damaged, so it must be design as harder as it can, the middle of the phone is a frame to work as a spring to reduce the drop impact, so it could be a TPU/Nylon. The front and the back is Gorilla Glass 5 to protect the phone from scratch and it hardness is balance from front to back of the phone.
The combination of materials can be a perfect design. All material must have it pros n cons so the Designs is the only way to bring the device great!

The pool option just misleading people choose from one of the selection, so I am not going to choose between 4 material.
I suggest the combination all of these materials but except ceramic. I will suggest the Gorilla Glass and Aluminum and premium TPU to ensure all the materials of use unleash all it benefits! That's why I suggest Xperia XZ Premium.

Long ago Nokia has used ploycarbonate body in thier phones like legendary 1020. This material is one of the best for phones. They are light weight, unbreakable, good signal reception, finger print resistant, durable, no color fading...list goes on and on. Only negative thing they are not shiney like glass or metal.

I'm fine with anything other than glass on my phones. As long as it feels sturdy, and won't get all scratched up when you place it on anything but cloth (like glass does). Plus, if you drop it, good luck retaining any resale value after that...

I liked LGs Duraflex. It had a quality feel to it,it was durable as hell and it did not get hot. The V10 was heavy but I like heavy phones. I am sure that they could put Wireless Charge in it too.
I remember leather phones. The looks were awesome but it ripped quickly.
I voted for exotic materials because glass is brittle and aluminum scratches easily.

so many noobs vote for metal obviously not knowing limitations and restrictions that causes on smartphones ... glass is perfect material ,it's durable bc it cant scratch , looks good and premium , just don't drop or sit on your phone .

No one mention Motorola here? When comes to material selection, Motorola WAS the best. They've use some crazy materials like carbon kevlar, ballistic nylon, leather, even their plastic material like on the first gen of E, G, X, is among the thoughest. Sadly Lenovo ruin it all with their disappointing decision with generic design and material choices.

Glass is fragile. Most people that own a "glass sandwich" keep their precious inside a cover, so looks are a no-go.
Plastic feels cheap, but sure is a lot more resistant. However, if it doesn't come along a removable battery, then it's kind of a waste. It will find more uses in an enterprise environment where drops can be frequent and downtime unacceptable.
Wild materials are interesting.
Metal is cool and resistant, but people somehow just need wireless charging.
