AsusTech, 06 Aug 2017HMD does not own Pureview yet right? or am I wrong? anyway ... moreEven if they own the PureView technology, the main people behind it are gone. Damian Dinning (head of the Nokia camera department until the Microsoft thing) is now in Jaguar, Juha Alakarhu (his second man and successor) was in Microsoft and he is now back to Nokia, but not to the phone department but to Nokia VR department. Ari Partinen, another PureView expert, is now in Apple.
Well, my N8 still works, even though I have another phone now, if I had to take some serious photos I'd take the N8 with me too. Large sensors rule. You can't beat the laws of physics.

Large high grade sensor with large optics > Dual tiny low grade sensors with average optic sizes

I mostly used it for my night clubbing..but use my nubia z9 exclusive as my regular phone. I still prefer nokia even wen i bought it at smaller price.

Why isn't Nokia 7610 there? That was the first 1mp camera phone. I guess it's gsmarena noob day again.

Sonu4678, 06 Aug 2017HTC U11 - Best camera is going too far. I think S8 & Pi... moreyou gotta do better on your camera research, those models you just stated has no competition against 808

Wow, the 808's sensor is so large, that 5 megapixels more than 3x the resolution of the S8's main camera provides the same pixel size at 1.4um.

I wonder how large will the pixel size be if the same sensor will drop pixel count to 16 or 20mp. I'm not good at Math sadly, but that will be insanely great.
Pair that with a reasonable f1.8 aperture and Sony's master class SteadyShot EIS for photos and videos, and it'll be an RX100 smartphone.

xXENDER FREAKXx, 06 Aug 2017They can do it. Because it is a Sony. MAKE . BELIEVEYes hopefully they can.
They were able to fix the corner softness of the lens from previous Xperia flagships and seriously improved the Panorama mode, so I highly doubt they can't do this. Just a matter of thinking it out loud, and they will be the leader of mobile cameras again.

I want to see a Sony RX100 image quality from a smartphone.

ZTE Axon 7 (20 MP, 1.12 um pixel size, f/1.8)
                  Huawei P10 Plus (20 MP + 12 MP, f/1.8 for both)
And of course all sony phones with 19 to 23 MP cameras (effective resolution is the same for all)

these are some of the best shooters of nowadays, there's also Nokia Lumia 1520 with a 20 MP camera, it was one of the toughest phones at its release time.

"Thin phones and an aversion to camera humps killed the large sensor phone, which limits the practical resolution to 20MP or so. Most makers actually took a step back from 16MP to 12MP to improve low light performance".

Mystery solved. Now, we know why smartphone manufacturer downgrade camera. Its all because of the camera humps haters & thin phone lovers aka all of us. We all kill the megapixel race. And this give the rise to dual camera and aperture race. Some even triple camera - vivo xplay 7, im pointing at you. Its all our fault. I hope manufacturer dont think we hate higher megapixel. We more than welcoming better camera megapixel. Bring back 16 megapixel sensor! Stop the camera lens race.

I hope the guys at HMD/Nokia will make a one-... moreMan, even if the camera sensor was half the size as the 808's, it would still be the biggest sensor on the market. Heck, even at 1/1.5' they could still fit it in a reasonably slim device - not record breaking, but slim. The rest of the phone could have a bigger battery instead of making it slim with a bump. Larger battery, a sensor twice as huge as today's best, dreams.

I don't mind the additional thickness. I'm using a 10mm thick phone that weighs at 202g and I don't feel like it needs to be smaller.
