04 August 2017
We all know how the story ends - the Nokia 808 PureView reaches a peak no one else has visited since.

I really, really, really wish for an Android 1020 successor. That was by far the best Windows Phone has ever gotten, that Android didn't, and Windows actually prevented it from being a raging success. I wish other companies continued their attempts at getting even remotely close to that sensor size, instead of packing dual-smaller-sensors instead.

On a side note, I don't see mentions of Siemens in that Counterclockwise series. I think they deserve a special article altogether. They used to be such a legend, and the reason I came to GSMArena and stayed over the years, and commented, despite of how the comments sections have gotten over the years.

It's a pitty phone makes stopped to make 41MP phones. If they would just pair 41MP, 1.4um sensor, F1.7 lens with modified Snapdragon 835 ISP. We would have much better photos from mobile phones. Both Nokia 808 and Lumia 1020 were ahead of their time when it comes to camera. Today companies just copycat from each other. Dual cameras, triple cameras, but Nokia 808 (5 years old) and Lumia 1020 (3 years old) can still beat many of them when it comes to image quality. R.I.P.

The Nokia 808 was the perfect smartphone, except perhaps its browsing speed. I miss the days when people would take nature shots and take the time to edit them and upload them to a proper website. Phones nowadays are nothing but glorified web browsers and ego stroking instagram machines.

I had the lumia 1020. It was such a good phone. Camera is still better than any modern phones today

Should mention Sony and 23MP smartphone cameras, but pretty good article.

Should've made a mention to HTC One (M7) and how they went backwards on the trend of the megapixel race. That instead of getting more pixels/quantity, they went for better pixels/quality.

Whilst the camera really wasn't the best at the time, they proved its a game of balance and compromises. There's a reason the HTC U11 is known as the phone with the best camera.

Nice Article. I hope the guys at HMD/Nokia will make a one-off tribute to the 808 Pureview with another large sensor camera for enthusiasts who don't mind 11-15mm thickness.

I also hope that instead of having a camera bump, they will make the phone uniformly thick and fit in a 7000 mAh battery, since they have the thickness to play around with it.
