13 August 2017
Despite the usual criticisms, AMOLED is clearly the preferred screen technology for phones.

No matter how better LG's oled can be.
Many sites will say Samsung's is better.

Out of the box, my Note4, S6, S7, were all close enough to the 6500k not to annoy me. After few month use (since I use my phone outdoors more than I do indoors), it has ever increasing yellow tint compared to my color calibrated monitor. For this reason alone, I prefer LCD over OLED. I am more excited about micro LED displays than I have ever been for OLED. It will either push OLED technology forward or displace it. Either way it will be a win for us consumers.

But not limiting the user's choice of content on the screen that AMOLED screen have. I hope burn-ins get solved. We all just want to get rid of screen issues to enjoy our phones whether in a short time or for many years of use.

(AM)OLED was before the future's technology. All the advantages, wider color gamut wider than most TV and PCs), reduced battery consumption, thinner, biodegradable (yaay! Green!) flexible... those that don't want it are in denial. Great theb. Stay on station. We're taking the future train. We'll also learn how to have extremely accurate colors and avoid burn-ins during the trip.

Hm. On a side note...lcd has 154 votes while quantum dot has 1934..... 154 is supposedly 8% of the total....and in comparison to that 1934 is only 10%????

                    And the numbers are 61%, 20%, 10%, and 8%. That's only 99%.
The total would be 17,258 votes. Author
                    61% is 10,527.38 but shows 11,347.
                    20% is 3,451.6 but shows 3,823.
                    10% is 1,725.8 but shows 1,934.
                    8% is 1,380.64 but shows 154.

I mean, I love the LG G6 on paper, I love the slim bezels on a non-curved display. I don't even mind the older chipset. What kills it year after year, is the LCD display. I simply wouldn't be able to go back to such eye sore. It's even more confusing as LG is making their own OLED panels, yet using LCD on their flagship phone. I am quite sure this alone is a single factor killing their flagship phone sales. And small camera sensors.

But while you care about the tech involved in delivering that quality (good for you, then), I really don't. Whoever does it better gets my nod, even if it's freaking plasma.

I also have a pragmatic attitude when it comes to phones. I think screens as just tools to convey visual data to the user.

Even with at optimal quality the technology is different.
They will do different things. And amoled has the advantage.

Just like when people say clock speed and mega pixels don't count.
Well when all the tech or quality is on par then it's those things that will count and make the difference.

If you make them have the same output, don't you effectively remove diffrentiation? So why should anyone then care, since the output will be the same anyway?

As a G3 owner (coming from Galaxy S2), I'll say this. If I ever bump into the individuals from LG who thought LCD was better than AMOLED, I'm going to punch them in the face like I never did in my life.

For your own sake don't buy phones with LCD no matter how good they are. You'll thank me later.

I really doubt the many phone buyer would care too much about saturation, contrast ratios, and other stuff people bicker about all day long. Most only care that they can see and tell apart red, blue, and black - which is taught in school and at home anyways.
