Best thing would be to buy phone from a manufacturer as a clean piece of hardware (like PC) and than choose by yourself witch OS you want to install (like choosing Windows, Linux, BSD or MacOS X for your PC) by downloading free ROM-s fromm official sites, but I guess it will only stay a dream.

Anonymous, 25 May 2011This is why Android will win the OS war, it's open.Symbian is open and look at Symbian`s market position. It has (in my opinion) best core system functionality but because off lack of flashy effects and fancy animations it is loosing it`s ground quickly to android and iOS and now possibly WP7. Being open does not guarantee you victory.

[deleted post]LOL. You're definitely mad. Talk about fanboyism...
What we have here is an OS that's not yet born and from previous experience, WP7 was incomplete and lacking competition. 7.1 still doesn't bring USB mass storage, bluetooth file transfer, and many other important features out of the box (talk about ease of use for the "masses"). WP did not catch up to Android, let alone much superior.. lol
WP being born later, users should expect it would cover most of the problems of currently existing phones but it does not. If it's about a year late to the party, you expect WP to be more fashionable but it's not. In terms of maturity, WP has seen where Android, iOS, and Symbian failed, it should be quicker to catch up, COMMON SENSE. WP is just another competing OS that will not "TOP" over other OS but improve along with the rest.
Yeah, older Androids lag, definitely, but recent ones don't. If people didn't like it, so many wouldn't have been sold.
I'm absolutely sure I'm not scared of WP's potential as I will have no hesitation to jump wagon when I can see that WP is definitely better than Android. Currently, it's not better.

Ashura, 24 May 2011Exactely.It seems like Apple and Microsoft are telling us h... moreYou make some interesting points but on a debate about mass users and geeks you need to realize that mass users ( I think of people like my parents and stuff and someone using phone only for calls and SMS) will go to nearest phone store servicing shop or something in between and get ripped off they money for simple memory purge of a device or something. You are no geek, they use Nokia N900, triple boot maemo, meego and gingerbread but you are clearly above my mothers level of phone knowledge. But I agree that closed project like iOS or WP7 is the right answer.

Well Android has a very strong and good point, and is a very cool OS indeed.
But I like more choices, WP can be a very good contender, and this will be great for users since this push OS industry for give us a better products.
I cheer every company because without them this world of phones could be stuck with black and withe/green LCD displays with big numers and bad reception :D

Anonymous, 25 May 2011This is why Android will win the OS war, it's open.Well, open is not bad, but not good either...
The finest example is Linux, is Open, is free, but don't catch the users attention as Windows or Mac OS.
So, free is not always good, and the most important you need to convince developers and companies that OPEN will be good for their investments and interst because Android market is full of useless free programs and the good ones are expensive...:(
This world is not free at all, Androis is Open but lacks of support and Google is a company that need an special site for Android Users, but they don't do that, the prefeer give that to companies that sold Google OS (Samsung, motorola, LG, HTC, etc.) and they don't want to mess with users, that's a bad move, since users are out on the cold only googling around looking for answers that not always are indicated.. :(
In that case microsoft gives more support and Nokia has the best user support in phone area...is not Open, but still a lot of support and you have what you are paying for.

Theres no WMP7.1 for now, is difficult argue on something that is not in test actually, however the OS looks promising, I can't say is an Android killer, experts says this one can be the OS of the futer for smartphones.
I believe this war between OS's will be great since there will be a lot of options for the final user....

AnonD-1082, 24 May 2011A little info will go a long way. But these masses are not ... moreDid you use the WP7.1 phone? Are there any users? Has it released yet?
No, No and No. Why you are arguing with your assumption (WP7.1) against proven facts (Andriod)?
I’ll like to hear your logic when WP7.1 will be available, but till than keep your imagination to yourself.
Andriod lag is so dated; it is not a valid reason. Again I’ll be happy to see WP7.1 outperforms Andriod on multitasking without any lag. As WP7.1 isn’t available so stop complaining and stop assuming that WP will not lag.
By the way, mass people are smarter than you, so don’t worry about customization. Customization is a choice not mandatory.
Everyone should stop arguing on whether WP7.1 is better or worse than Andriod 2.3 because it isn’t available yet. Don’t waste your time, stop kicking the dead horse. Poor horsey, R.I.P.

AnonD-5197, 24 May 2011You missed my entire point. Try again.
All you read is ... moreAndroid don't lag? Try again. My galaxy s is the king of lag. Hangs more often than my n95. My moms motorola backflip crashes every time we connect it to the pc.
As far as I'm concerned, android is side than symbian in terms of stability and predictability.

Well let me reming there is plenty of custom OS for WP, one of the biggest sites has the coolest custom OS for WP XDA Development Team was a long with Microsoft OS's.
Theres too MoDaCo, PPCGeeks, windowsteamblog among many many others...
These guyz makes custom OS for WMP much before Android sees daylight. Enven they was the ones invent Cooked ROMS term.
So you can modd any WP in whatever you want that's no excuse for say Android is better tna other...
Even iOS has coocked ROMS from DEV Team and others....
And Symbian has some cool ROMS from symbianLatino, symbian world and others....

galaxy s2, loads of apps, widgets, go launcher with fully customised UI exactly how i want it. No task killer needed android manages this for you without one. Fastest phone i've ever used, full internet experience with flash, 16gb of built in and expandable memory and removable battery should I need to replace it. Gorilla glass screen. I have seen 3 Iphones today with spider web style cracks on their screens, someone please tell me what I am missing by choosing this over Iphone or any other smart phone.

AnonD-5197, 24 May 2011It sounds like you're just going by information you found f... moreExactely. It seems like Apple and Microsoft are telling us how to use our phone and "contaminating" our user experience while Google is leting us make our own experience and leting us make our own mistakes and costumization.
Costumizing your droid couldn´t be simpler you just have to surf the market.
I don´t know why everyone says droids lagg that´s simply not true.I have a droid,i´m happy with it and i have great user experince without needning much costumization.Like you say sometimes over simplification can be worse that over complication

AnonD-1082, 24 May 2011You are a geek no matter how you deny it. An informed perso... moreIt sounds like you're just going by information you found from iOS and Symbian forums rather than commenting from experience. Just because there are more customization options in Android doesn't make it any more complicated than other devices. You can choose not to customize the device and use it as it is straight out of the box without compromising UX. The difference is iOS is "providing" simpleness and Android allows you to make your device as simple as you want it to be.
iOS did have a head start in smoothness and snappiness of the UI and this is the biggest factor for the "masses" to choose iOS over others. There was no hassle, waiting, and frustrations with iPhones compared to competition at the time. But when smoothness and snappiness of other OS are all up to par (Androids don't lag, end of discussion) and you see iOS growth hitting a plateau. Simpleness and less customization of iOS is what's turning customers around to Android. WP is quite similar to iOS in terms of ecosystem. Microsoft is providing the UX rather than the consumers creating their own UX. While Android holds its niche providing customization, WP has to compete with iOS having similar ecosystem. I think WP will have more features and iOS because of Jobs's stubbornness against certain important features and that's the reason why I agree with the prediction that WP will do better than iOS. EDIT: But think about it... What chance does WP have against iOS if it just same amount of features? No chance.. Apple had head start and everyone knows the brand name. That's why WP7 didn't fly.
Also, you should notice that Android is on many low, mid range devices and they are selling well. WP devices have hardware standards and most of the devices at the time of release were fairly expensive. Assuming new WP will not be on low, mid range devices in the future, how will this appeal to "non geeks", average joes, lower budget consumers AKA "masses"?
Android and iOS will exist for a long time. With WP joining the competition they will continue to exist and improve stimulated by the competition. It's not so extreme as what you're saying. Not everyone wants to be spoon fed.
