seachel, 17 Aug 2017why is it so thickTwo reasons:
1) If it's shorter and narrower than the larger model then it would look thicker even if it was the same thickness.
2) If the phone is shorter and narrower then there is less space inside for the battery (and most internal components don't get smaller when you shrink the phone). So making it slightly thicker allows you to put a reasonable-sided battery in (I'll be surprised if it shrinks as some rumours say, they've been pretty consistent the last couple of years).
Also there's less need for it to be thin if it is smaller: with a bigger phone you need to shrink the thickness to make it more manageable. Try picking up one of the current compacts and see how it feels; every time I do so I'm tempted to buy one, and if they are returning to flagship specs this time (while so many others are saying "phablet or nothing") I really will be tempted.

The bezels I dont have an issue with, they are necessary for ease of use.. hitting the on screen buttons on an s8 is not comfortable! They just just better not cripple the specs like last years model.

Anonymous, 17 Aug 2017too thick and too small screenThere are gazillion other options as thin as half this and as big as 6.4" screen. There is no other phone on the market like the Sony compacts. While I wish the screen was 4.8-9", I am happy that they still keep the compact line alive.
Do us a favor - don't cry when you have doze a of options to satisfy your needs. We don't have that luxury.

The top bezel definitely look smaller.
I think the X1 will be a bezel less phone with SD660 at a very affordable price.

[deleted post]The compact must have plenty of high-tech components inside and greater battery and so on. Of course this must can pass the bend test and no camera humps. This is a extreme solid phone with gorgeous colours.

The bezels won't be big.
The X compact is only slightly bigger than Z5 compact:

The difference in size is mostly due to the design difference.

sony try to enlarge those bezels every year.
