Samsung is deliberately trying to push forward Quantom dot.. Infact samsung has the best Oled technlology, that is super amoled.. and diamond pixel arrangement was introduced by them.. Now samsung has good measure of reason for choosing LCD over oled right now.... TVs work at a much higher brightness continuously for hours with fixed channel logos.. which is a massive problem in any oled display for burn ins.. not only that, Qled can get very bright, much brighter than oleds, thats also a reason.. but the most important reason is, lcd is much more versatile.. whereas amoleds looks good only in specific situations.. in TVs atleast

Yes, they do have to sacrifice the brightness for it because it would burn the battery really fast if they didn't. But the 4k hdr from certain reviewers word is really stunning and definitely noticably sharper.
In outdoors i suppose it would be a bigger disadvantage. Once JDI oled comes we will see a real competitor to samsung.

also, clearblack might be good but nokia is till limited by whatever other suppliers make for them.

There is Oled with different materials that can literally use half the power of what we see here. And I mean apx 50%. At the same brightness level.
And there has been strides in the efficiency/life span of the the organic materials. Especially the blue. Within the next year or two expect some amazing Oled display technology.
Now when exactly it will be consumer available, come to mobiles, whether Samsung will be an early producer/adopter of such tech, and how much sooner or later companies like Sony and LG have it is all up in the air.

Think they use JDI lcd screen (which is part sony ). Same thing with nokia although nokia adds its own technology like clearblack screen which enhences whatever panel they get.
its really a battle between LG, Samsung, Sharp, and JDI since they are the main 4 panel makers.
I believe LG, Sharp, and JDi will definitely catch up soon. if Sharp and JDI partner up i think we are going to see the beginning of a true competitor to samsung.

DisplayMate is a joke. They want to become DxOmark in the display industry but fortunately you wouldn't. Displaymate is a trashy site who get paycheck from samsung everytime the release this 'test'. What really happen is that they just publish whatever report samsung send them to publish. Anyone who believes the displaymate test is a moron.

Even the Sony 4K display actually blend the rgb matrix with adjacent pixels to produce the 4K resolution.. So it is not true 4K rather pseudo 4K.. And it is brightness impaired

Nevermind just look at Nokia 8's score : 4.239!!! and it is not even an AMOLED!! Just regular IPS LCD with ClearBlack technology..
Only Nokia's AMOLED will be able to beat Samsung

No doubt Samsung makes the best smartphone screens today, but I'll wait for the competitors to catch up to the OLED race.
I'm keen to see what LG, Sony, HTC, Huawei, etc. have to offer with OLED screens, maybe they can do a far better job.
I'm also excited for Nokia's ClearBlack and PureMotion display.
Nokia 808 PureView's sunlight contrast is literally unmatchable on its time, and it took more than 2 yars before one could beat it by a hair.
