Samsung Galaxy S9 is rumored to debut in January

31 August 2017
This is said to happen so that the Korean company can defend its flagship line's sales against the iPhone 8.

For example, you might upgrade to a new phone this year, but I won't and I might upgrade on the next year, maybe a year after that. So, a one year cycle for a brand new flagship smartphone is crucial for both the manufacturers AND the consumers. This is why I don't mind this 'quick-update cycle' AT ALL.

People tend to over exaggerate on such small things...

Is it me or are all companies rushing out phones every 6 months?
Remember back when it was "Galaxy S" = the best, once per year, that's it, the rest is medium or economic tier...now it's like "Here's the S11, then 2 weeks later the S11 Plus, then a month later the S11 Edge, then S11 Active, S11 Proactive, S11 Championship Edition, S11 Note, S11 Tricycle...it's like WTF is wrong with companies, just have one flagship and make it worth the cash geez...
Anything below 11 month release cycle for flagship devices just seems unacceptable to me, you're no longer paying for that special feeling that you have "the best thing" if it will be replaced this fast.

          Nice pñone

Regarding this, there is really so, so much to say/ discuss. About different strategies and everything else. But just mentioning 2/3 points, and apart the SD845, dual- cam- setup, etc. Hopefully this time Samsung will include the In-Screen- Fingerprint scanner/sensor & a dual Stereo Speakers. They skip it with/for the S8 (duo), they skip it again for the Note 8, but 100% hopefully they will include it in the S9. Plus the long, long awaited dual Stereo Speakers (& it will be the time, to increase the front rec too, from QHD to UHD/4K like the Essential PH-1, etc).

New phone cycles should be every 3 years. Every year year we getting slightly upgraded phones, which we have to pay phenomal amounts of money for, with very little innovation.
Yes, 3 year cycle sounds good.
Bad for capitilism good for consumers.

Maybe this time they will place the fingerprint senson in a proper place - accessible from the front. I really hope it will be placed under the screen.

"Dual camera but a 2500mAh battery. We'll optimise the software like crazy so that you'll get 5 hours of screen on time. Cause we want you to pay extra and buy our wireless chargers for everywhere in your house so that you can keep your phone charged anywhere. Smaller battery will give help us save on production cost and increase profit.
Also the optmisations will make sure newer software updates and beefier android software will slow your device down and ruin the battery endurance that you'll run to us to give your precious money for our new flagship with a mediocre battery, next season.

I know that if there is one company that can pull off Modular Phone Design without making it look stupid, or impractical or unusable is Samsung. Though they should Stick to the Design Language of the S8 and Note 8.

Please put the Fingerprint Scanner at some sensible location though. And work on the Bloatware (atleast reduce it by 30%). Also there is a cache issue with apps constantly running in the background and being forced stopped. I hope Samsung improved that.

Modularity should address issues that exist and not have stupid mods like the Moto Z that serve no purpose and most of which don't have inbuilt battery.

Last year's iPhone 7+ sold more than 7, even though it's costlier. If apple does really provide something new in their anniversary edition, then i am sure it will sell as hot cakes, more likely in countries which have contract system and less likely in those who don't have.

AnonD-691116, 01 Sep 2017Congrats recent Note 8 and s8 purchasers. Your device will... moreFew things you should note down,
                                    1. It won't make our new flagship outdated, samsung ecosystem is not like Apple and new device means you'll also get some new features from it, note 8 added up with S8 and S8+ as the Samsung flagship line making the choice even more richer instead of making them outdated.
                                    2. It's not yet official, Samsung may still launch it in March plus it won't replace Note 8, it'll be the successor of S8 which will already be 10 months old by then.
                                    3. By chance it came out much superior than S8, we can still upgrade easily. Samsung high end users are richer than you imagine, unlike iPhone users they want everything latest and greatest and don't need to make up for the purchase by cutting other expenses for a couple of years.
