Xiaomi Mi A1 is official with stock Android

05 September 2017
The phone is the latest Android One device with the same hardware specs as the Xiaomi Mi 5X.

"The stock Android means Xiaomi is launching the device without MIUI 9, but the Chinese manufacturer is keeping the MIUI camera app"

Fag... so it actually is possible to port that app without MIUI framework? You're really naughty this time, Xiaomi...

AnonD-697800, 05 Sep 2017While your point on not many people being knowledgeable abo... moreBro please don't give this advice to anyone Honestly you will hard brick someone's phone

You can't install a custom ROM without unlocking the bootloader for that matter you can't even install a custom recovery

Did you use Mi unlock to get the unlocking permission for your phone ????
That's called Bootloader unlocking for Xiaomi Devices Also Xiaomi has its own software knows as Mi Unlock to unlock bootloaders which it does automatically

Please I request you not to tell anyone that you can install a custom ROM without unlocking the bootloader You will hard brick many peoples phones

I have Installed custom ROMs on more than 40 phones of different OEMS and there is no phone in which a custom ROM can be installed without unlocking the bootloader

The only thing you can do is flash the OEMS firmware through fastboot this the only thing you can do without unlocking the bootloader

The pre requisite for every ROM on XDA for every device on XDA says this

Prerequisites: Unlocked bootloader , TWRP recovery.

Intact you don't need to root your phone to install a Custom ROM you just need to unlock your bootloader Root is built in Most of the Roms

You are quite a Noob in development Please go through XDA thoroughly b4 advising people It may cost them their phones and hard earned money

I have LineageOS running on my father's Redmi Note 3 without unlocking the bootloader since MIUI was unbearably buggy and confusing for him. You certainly need an unlocked bootloader to root the phone but that is not a necessity to use a custom ROM.

AnonD-66956, 05 Sep 2017actually compass is crucial for offline navigation. in the ... moreThat depends very much on location, amount of available wifi networks (along with changes since the last mapping by Google) and your own mobile operator's A-GPS. It's quite common to rely on the compass even when you are online, happens to me quite frequently when roaming.

TL;DR Having a compass is always better than not having one.

Stock Android to the mi mix 2 would be near perfect.

Merwyn Fernandes, 05 Sep 2017I am talking only about myself and the people I know and ha... moreThats just xda ughh. Most close minded bunch of people ever! HTC listened to them completely last year and few months later they came out with an article that basically said they got bored with htc10, it's too ordinary and that's despite complain always about slow samsung phones lol. They have zero clue what they even want with a phone much less other consumers.

Anonymous, 05 Sep 2017Yes the custom ROM route. Well if I'm going to flash a ROM ... moreFacts are facts there is hardly a handful of people in India who will pay 700-800$ for a Xiaomi that is the teritiory of Samsung and apples in India

People who pay that kind of money at least In India are looking for a status symbol and I don't think Xiaomi solves the purpose for them

Also Xiaomi has time and time again failed with its flagships in India Mi4 and Mi5 Both bombed in India

After which Xiaomi decided not to get any more flagships

There is no use for a company to import its phones to a country and bear all the taxes just to sell a handful of units to enthusiasts and Xiaomi as a brand that runs on razor thin margins won't take that risk

Can't expect the Chinese pricing in other countries they need to pay taxes and lot of bureaucracy involved which will add 100-200$ to the price easily

that is tempting. after the Nexus 5, there's no affordable Android that is controlled by Google.

however, i want an OLED display and a camera with OIS.

Well if I'm going to flash a ROM then I'd rather have the best specs won't I. In that case a rn4 would be better sans camera. Also while I agree miui is divisive but still doesn't change the fact that Google supports phone for lesser time than miui. I can send you screen shot of my mi3 or mi2 running July security update with miui 9 and that thing is from 2013 and 2012 respectively. Also yes you're correct about mass market device. But why not cater to the people who want a phone which costs more than 20k. Mi mix and note 2 were pretty popular weren't they? Means there is market for mi phones costing more than 20k. They already have 2 phones with SD 625. Why not launch say MI6 which is 2699 Yuan with stock Android? Or maybe something with 660 for 1999 Yuan. Normally I am not worried about business models but this is surely harmful for brand image. One plus mostly gets away selling same phone as mi A1 (except amoled and a tiny bit bigger battery)with SD 835 for twice the price. Why can't they undercut it ?

And that will be continued with custom ROM support cause this will be quite a popular device
