Nokia definitely needs to change its game plan and Symbian wasn't helping, so I think its a good move to finally kill it and move on.
But I don't know if siding with Windows 7 is a great idea - why do they have to take sides anyway? HTC and Samsung are proof that you can have both Android and Windows phones.
Having said that, I foresee a time not too far away when phones become more like laptops - with hardware being s/w independent and you can use a phone with any OS (much like Windows/Linux)

1. They will have an event on June 21. Hopefully, non M$Ft.
2. You hate nokia? Move to other brand. I slag them due to premature announcement on Symbian death.

"Commenting about the competition, Elop also expressed his wish to see Samsung become more successful with Windows Phone 7 as that would increase the popularity of the platform and make Nokia's goal of establishing Windows Phone 7 as the third major smartphone platform easier."
How about this. Have Nokia make some good Android phones and Samsung will make some good Windows Phones. Sounds like a good trade to me.

AnonD-9689, 02 Jun 2011dear but what was reason not stopped maemo ? only one devic... moreWell actually maemo is nokia's own os. After intel came along and try to merge their own moblin and nokia's maemo to create meego. Which sadly was a failure. Maemo was actually made for internet tablet. Google it and you will find out yoursevels. And for you wrote that samsung and htc making maemo phone than forget it. They could join intel to create meego phone just like lg and other company will do. But maemo never!!!!. Search maemo at wikipedia to find out about more about this os. Unlike android maemo is debian based modified mobile linux and has full linux kernel but android dosen't.

Iphone 4 has better battery life than 3gs
galaxy s2 have better bettery life than galaxy s
Both phones got faster and didn't loose any battery life, even got better
Same for iPad vs iPad2 2 both has same awesome battery life.
Last day i read magazine where was test of 15 smartphones.
Nokia E7 got 7 points for battery life, iPhone 4 got 9, galaxy s2 got 8.
So battery life with much slower E7 wasn't any better even opposite.

Adrian 68, 02 Jun 2011They should have bought Palm when it was up for sale, then ... moreBy Palm? Why? They already had a great os in maemo but failed to realise that. The os only needed some tweaking here and there and it would have been fine but for some reason nokia couldnt see the potential of this great os. By now we would have been having version 7 of maemo. I hope that device that Elop flaunted in the video was a maemo device and not meego. Maemo belongs to nokia and that would be much more benificial for them to perdist with rather than dishing out a device that they woyld just release probably one of.

At the moment every manufacturer is going for fast but when will they realise that there is no balance for battery performance as yet? Galaxy s 2 is a great phone by the way.

I never liked s60 OS, as s40 always did what I need well. What really annoys me about Nokia is there abandonment of high quality s40 handsets. They just stopped making them. S40 seems to be regulated to cheap plastic devices.
Nokia seemed to have decided all s40 users need to move s60 and all s60 users need to migrate to Symbian^3. Nokia management seemed to lack the intelligence to realise loyal users DO NOT WANT to change OS's. When forced to due so we are likely to try another brand.

simple user, 02 Jun 2011big LOL at all complaining about nokia hardware... WTF you ... more"big LOL at all complaining about nokia hardware... WTF you need extra fast processor?"
Look how fast galaxy s2 is compared to galaxy s, look how much faster iPhone 4 is compared to iPhone 3gs etc.
Look from youtube how fast galaxy s2 web browser is, it's only smartphone which can run flash perfectly smoothly and it's loading pages faster than any phone.
I always heard nokia people complaining iOS doesn't have flash, then their own phone has very laggy flash, very nice :D. Don't you think extra power would make it run smoother like it do with galaxy s2?
Extra speed is always welcome, people who disagree have to be nokia fanboy.
By the way i have question for you, why people are going to buy faster computers? why you need extra fast processor?
for my opinion, i bought new parts for my computer, because i wanted everything to be faster and now i have dual core processor and oh boy everything works so much better now than before. Faster computer is so much more enjoyable use than slow computer. Same for phones, its much more enjoyable to use phone which is blazin fast (like galaxy s2 is)

Adrian 68, 02 Jun 2011They should have bought Palm when it was up for sale, then ... moreThey could have bought palm but why? They already had a good os in Maemo which with a bit of further development could have had the best os to date. In the 1st iteration it was maemo 5. By now 2 years later it would have been on version 7!! They threw that away and never needed meego in the 1st place at all. I hope that the phone elnp flashed in the video was maemo based rather than meego. Maemo belongs to nokia and deserves completion. Maybe then they'd realise what they can do with this great os.

Get real!, 02 Jun 2011I am glad they didn't - would have been only one more brand... moreJust like how Nokia is exactly another brand to WP7? You do know that every android maker has a WP7 handset do you not? ZTE and Huawei also just recently announced they will be making WP7 handsets by the end of this year as well. So how exactly is Nokia differentiating itself from the rest of the mobile industry by allying with WP7, especially when Microsoft has strict guidelines to follow when it comes to hardware and UI? Sure Nokia will have "free reign" on UI modification, but do you honestly believe that every other manufacturer out there whether it be Samsung, LG, and HTC will sit idly by? Microsoft's current deal with HTC is that they make $5 for every handset HTC sells because HTC is not an exclusive WP7 manufacturer. This makes Microsoft 5X more revenue than they do with WP7 handsets; now lets give that a value that you the everyday consumer can relate to. Say Microsoft makes $100million from WP7; that means Microsoft is raking in $500 million from their deals with manufacturers that also produce android devices. Nokia joins in WP7 mobile productions and they get special treatment which makes their handsets favorable over HTC, LG, and Samsung. How do you think these brands would react? They'd stop making these WP7 devices which means their agreement for with Microsoft basically ends. Microsoft loses out on that 5x more revenue.
So again, how is Nokia joining WP7 differentiating themselves from other brand? The only thing different between WP7 and Android is that Android is a more established route.
