HMD will update the current Nokia phones to Android P

02 October 2017
The company is also open to unlocking the bootloaders - but Oreo is the priority right now.

I hope Nokia will update their phones, at least 7 and up, to 3 times update cycle.
It’s ok for 6 and less only get 2 updates. More than good actually.
Like when they’re using WP. They updated the entire lumia from 8 to 8.1 to 8.1 update 1 (amber, black, cyan, denim).

I keep my iPhone since 2015, it’s second hand 5s, bought back then for only $320. Still faster than last year Android. But i gotta admit it’s a hell slower compared to the 10. But still usable for every reason.

It has been updated 3 times now, till my usage.

HMD/Nokia is doing a good job in updates.

Its funny that people compare Xiaomi flagships with other flagships. Compare them with phones that are similar in price instead. Nokia 6 is way too expensive compared to Mi5. Mi4 did get 2 major OS updates all the way from 4.4 to 6.0.1

Anonymous, 03 Oct 2017You give me headaches. I paid € 700 for the phone and € 40 ... moreYou comment is full of shit

You are saying that Mid-range Chinese phones have low build quality this is 2017 stop living in the dark ages of your iPhone whose only purpose is to squeeze it's customer's of every penny they have got

Have you even seen the build quality of a Xiaomi Redmi note 4 , Mi6 ,Mi Note 3 or a Moto G5s Plus or Moto Z2 play ,OP3T, Honor 9 ,8 all of them come under 400$

Also Coming to the performance the SD 400 ,600 and 800 series are closer than ever when it comes to performance so the difference between a budget phone and a premium phone when it comes to performance is getting lesser and lesser

And Finally the software part as I said earlier when it comes Android If the phone has an unlockable bootloader and a Snapdragon Processor you don't have to worry about the OEM software support there are tons of Developers that build Custom ROMs for Android Phones Which Increase the Longevity of the phones.

When I say 1000$ I am talking about the new iPhone X which I don't think is worth even with it's long term support of updates I don't think it come anywhere near to a Mi Mix or a Samsung S8 / Note 8 ,Upcoming Pixel 2 Series or The Huawei Mate 10 Series These phones are already 2 -3 years ahead of what iPhone X is

And also I don't think iPhone 5 is worth 700€ with it's less than 2000mah battery just imagine what will it's battery life be When it's at the end of its life cycle in 4 years it may have come down to 1000mah or 500mah

On top of that you wasted 40€ for a battery pack is laughable when you can obviously see what type of phones are available these days for under 400$

The perfect update cycle for Android so 2 Major Os updates or 18 Months For people who want to keep their Phones longer they always have Custom ROMs and 3rd Party Support So OEMs don't have to bother

Android may not provide longer period for updates to their phones, but at least they don't bog down or slow down your phone like what iOS is doing. In fact, some updates even make the phone faster or work better.

Sure iOS provides updates for around 4 years, but by the 3rd year of updates, your phones slows down so much that you'll be forced to buy a new phone to keep the same speed.

                                And sometimes 2 years.

However, other developed countries (France, Germany, Italy, Scandinavia, Spain, Mexico, Japan, SKorea, Hong Kong, Singapore, Israel, UAE) actually keep devices for at least 2 years.

Then we have the developing nations of Russia, Iran, Middle-East, Egypt, India, China, Brazil, SAmericas who do have smartphones and hold unto them for close to 4 years. Majority of smartphone users keep one for 4 years!! And in these markets, removable batteries are a bigger deal, as well as centres where people can open up phones to repair them.

And finally we have the third-world countries in Africa and South-East Asia who cannot afford smartphones. Here, they get whatever they can get. However, the number of Android devices is rising steadily, but they're usually super-low end, plagued with bugs and malware. They will keep a device for more than 4 years, or until they can no longer afford to repair them. As its not a high-priority for most citizens who are more concerned about food, water, shelter and education.

Why would it add on my next phone like WTF? The phone loses most of it's value in the first 2 years, after that, it becomes less, but the most is at 2nd year because then, everybody is selling his 2 year old phone because their contract gives them a new one (I have a cheap yet great contract and a phone which I keep longer). So the longer you use it, the more money you save, if you are as smart as me and always buy a flagship.

It is comparable to cars. Cars lose most of their value in the first 3 years. After that, it becomes less. Do you sell your car after 3 years and buy a newer one? If yes, you are pretty dumb. I will never understand the American mentality. But they also make weapons free to everybody, so it's not a big surprise how stupidly they waste their money.
