Simon, 09 Oct 2017What's up with Pureview tech? Will they make Android smartp... moreThe brandname PureView is still owned by Microsoft, otherwise Nokia would have had this brandname on the new Nokia 8 I think. Maybe Microsoft is going to use this brandname in combination with other stuff like AR and VR tech.

Windows Mobile OS has been long dead. This is finally an official confirmation regarding the same. It failed due to the reasons clearly mentioned by Joe. Now we are just left with two major operating systems for smartphones - Android & iOS. This means, less competition and less choice for users, in terms of smartphone operating systems. Tizen OS & Sailfish OS are not ready to prime time. The real problem with making a new operating system for smartphones is to do with app ecosystem, lack of apps and negligible market share are the main reasons behind the demise of Windows Mobile OS. RIP Windows Mobile OS.

I am still using my Nokia Lumia 930 and 1020, Lumia running Windows 10 and the 1020 is stuck on 8.1, however the experience of this OS is superb. It's true that developers didn't pay attention at all, and that makes or breaks a platform, no matter how much money you throw at it. Eventually developers decided for us consumer to choose between two OS. That's it. The consumer cannot choose, decicion is already made by developers: iOS or Android.

950XL is however pretty much alive with updates and new features coming from 2 rings to stable one so for some users its not so much dead.
W10 mobile will be reborn as UI for Andromeda, so its dead neither.
Not expecting surface phone as phones are dead to them already, so its either 5G hololens or small bendable surface.

I think that MS stopped in the mid of its way and that's too stupid and short look to the future
I think if they start rolling anew devices with more innovations and features they will attract more customers which help pushing the developers to support the IOS more n more .

Not a surprise, personally never really liked the OS. Windows on desktop is my go-to-OS, but not on mobile.

I don't give rats ass. Using Nokia 808 on Belle (Which supposed to be dead long ago, but it isn't), will continue using my 950XL also. Best camera phones out there and both OS'es are superior to Android or iOS. They doesn't lag, for example. Of course, sheep don't realise that because being different is so no no in their style of life.

Anonymous, 09 Oct 2017use the flagships of Android and then judgeWe were using low to mid level WP devices back then. Why should we compare them to flagship of any platform? Anyway... After those W10M fiasco, I've switched to Android (Android One to be exact) straight from WP8.1 and be done with it. Now that more options available to experience original Android with continuous update support, I'll be more than happy... :3

Meh. I would think that Windows Phone are dead even if I didn't see this news. Windows Phone with big camera bumps, and a history of smartphones that have small batteries, that is how I remember what a Windows Phone looks like, and that is the worst impression I have for a smartphone

For anyone not familiar with American culture:

Catch-22 is the title of a famous novel. Wikipedia knows the novel well. The plot is basically that you can't have what you need to be successful unless you already are successful.

This describes Microsoft's situation perfectly. You can't have billions of customers until you have apps. You can't have apps until developers care about your platform. Developers won't care about your platform until you have billions of customers.

Microsoft tried to buy their way in by subsidizing developers with its massive bank account. This worked for their video game console. Not so much with their phones.
