Kinda disappointing. I suggest everyone go the Lineage route, especially since rooting and unlocking the phone's bootloader doesn't void the warranty.

CM3, 11 Oct 2017Actually, Xiaomi and Huawei doesn't do it any more than Goo... moreYes. And if a company/dev/oem works at it intuitively there are better safer more effective ways to get the information you need and not have to be as secretive about it. Not sure what OP is really doing there on their phones or the data they are collecting, but there are certain pieces of data that need to be left anonymous. This is a hunch and only an opinion but I suspect they were requested to pull that type of detailed info.

Thank you for this, Christopher and GSMArena! I value my privacy and would perhaps be more accepting if they had clearly asked my permission

If you use a smartphone (Android or any other), your data is collected by
* the phone OS developer
* the services in the phone
* the device manufacturer
* the apps you install
Operamini wants your contacts
Need for speed most wanted reads your contact info
All social media apps collect information that is totally unimaginable.

Like anything else was ever expected from a Chinese company who so shamelessly copied the iPhone 7+ design? Ethics is the last thing to expect from these pathetic oems.

They MUST know which device has it's screen off. C'mon guys, every company must know that. How else can you "provide a better user experience"?
Hey, that's what you get for trusting a Chinese OEM that was cheating in benchmarks... twice.
