Display thing - others did that first, some even did better (xiaomi samsung and other)
Camera - dual or single, iphone takes good photos, but will not come on top (i guess pixel will take that )

For example has no profits yet became the greatest car company in Net Worth all because of its potentially revolutionary ideas. By comparison Apple is relatively static.
iPhone X is an attempt from Apple to revive itself.

When the final designs were on the table which baffoon decided on the "notch" design. After watching the launch video live on youtube it all seemed very "gimmicky" to me. its alot of money for a gimmick, its like apple were running out of ideas to make it standout. Much prefere the 7 design to be honest. A true apple fanboy wont even be able to see "the notch"

The original iphone was a jump (capacitive smartphone that was useful)
iPhone 4 was a jump (first trully premium looking iphone the benchmark for years to come, first smartphone for frequent reading).
The rest were re-iterations of iphone 4...
iPhone X ... again another jump.

Wow. Look at all the hate. I didn't see you guys complaining when Samsung and LG started the tall display thing. Phones are slowly reaching towards 21:9 cinematic ratio anyway. And honestly I have no clue how you have such a problem with what you call the"notch". The most revolutionary piece of hardware this year, complete with the fastest innards (by far) and quite possibly the best camera (honestly, only you guys disagree, I, for one, hate Samsung's overprocessing), and you literally post a rant about it. You people are losing any kind of popularity in the US, I'm sorry to say. It's okay if you prefer android over iOS. What's not okay is how you keep trying to oversell Samsung. Last year the world was crazy about the pixel phones, you guys couldn't care less, insisted S7 was the best camera phone (yikes!). This year it'll be the same story.

So the camera, GPU/AR capability, wireless charging and display changes arent new? The obvious baseband improvements? It is the biggest improvment in a new iphone since the milestone with 5s, which doubled performance, added fingerprint to the world along with a ton of lte bands. Stick to facts, not emotions.

By all means pre-order all the boring iphones of the past. The iphone 5 which was a taller iphone 4 with updated performance. Or the iphone 6, the phone with yet more updated performance and 4.7 inch screen instead of a 4 inch screen. What about the iphone 8 which only difference from iphone 7 , iphone 6s and iphone 6 is ... wait for it ... updated performance?
iPhone X is the first attempt of the company ever since the death of Jobs to upgrade the iphone, the *first* ... the previous ones were more or less the design lines and outgrowth out of iphone 4 (the last great iphone IMO apart from the original).
By comparison look how more active Jobs was with design changes. The ipod had a million iterations until it got it right with ipod touch and that was on the short span of 6 years. Same with the iphone. In just its 3rd year of its existence it was in its second major re-iteration ... what happened after that? Jobs died and the company lost its identity, sure it made some billions more, but lost the drive for future decades' billions.
iPhone X is the attempt of a dying company (yeah I said it!) to get out of the slump. Apple sells more than ever, but it's more bankrupt from ideas than ever. iPhone X *tries* to change that.
Whether it will succeed or not, it doesn't matter, what matters is that *that* is true Apple, and Apple of old was open to mistakes, so even it is a mistake it should be praised for being a departure from the iphone 8 design ... if anything it's iphone 8 that should be egged on ... it shows that the company is still kind of unwilling to get back into *trying* to be innovative and fresh.
For all its ills iPhone X is a new direction, like iphone 4 was and the original iphone was before either. Its ills are fixable in future iterations, the unwillingness to change was seemingly not, and iphone X seems to be trying to do something about *that*.
BTW iphone X ills can be easily sidestepped by future iterations. Under the glass sensors and selfie would fix the cyclops looks, under the glass fingerprint sensor may even bring the fingerprint.
But you *have to* have the iphone X mass producing before reaching to its more refined self ... people seem to forget that. The iphone 4ish look/style in its ... 8th (!) iteration (4s - 2nd, 5 - 3rd, 5s - 4th, 6 - 5th, 7 - 6th, 7s - 7th , 8 - 8th) it's beyond dead, it's some walking-dead sh*t ... people forget how dynamic company Apple was and now that they attempt to return to their roots they bash them... Yeah, they should had created a blackberry clone instead of the iphones, because that's what the Apple "you" love would do... Iphone X's team and Steve Job's Apple would not...
BTW iphone 4 was my last Apple phone and after 7 years of android I'm finally thinking Apple again. Depending on how completely broken iphone X is (if it's not , there's nothing *close* to it).

Will faceid work as advertized? Its Apple, if it doesnt work as buyers expect it doesnt come out. That said, i want a smaller X before i consider it, in q1 2018 i would expect the impeding release of an SE with ipone 8 internals, i think an “X Compact” is too far into the future to start worrying anout the X lineup at this time.
