It's sad because they do generally make pretty good phones.

Anonymous, 08 Nov 2017I agree they are expensive and ugly. But personally I love... moreSamsung is also one of the major reasons the competitors are struggling. They're doing all the shady things they can, including astroturfing, smear campaigns, price-fixing, bribery and sabotaging competitors R&D by buying up all related equipment (even if they don't need it).

We need a lot less Samsung and a lot more healthy competition in the mobile world.

It's disappointing knowing they make decent flagship but overprice for the market. And if only the had kept up with trends. Bump up battery size... Well hope they wake up soon.

AnonD-510098, 08 Nov 2017They will die along with moto and LGI'm always curious what people who think this expect will happen when theoretically, Samsung is the only Android OEM left..... once LG and Moto and HTC and Sony all die... what is there left? I thought Android was supposed to be about greater competition, why are we rooting for all but one OEM to die?

HTC is getting killed by Google just like how M$ almost killed Nokia.

was a htc fan before . now meH. they deserve to be bankrupted for just making shit recently

Vic, 08 Nov 2017No need to wonder why. All this is a result of 3.5 mm jack ... moreWell that's just outright false.

The U11 outsold its predecessors in the first months. Competition was just too fierce as HTC missed the bezelless design fad, nor did they drop their price to match the Galaxy S8 as time went on. HTC also flopped their HTC U Play and U Ultra phones, and saw a generally low carrier availability which ruined their sales.

Very few cared about the 3.5 mm port, the USonic headphones were regarded as great and HTC were praised for their U11 design and colours which stood out from the similar-looking black slabs.

xOx, 08 Nov 2017Google will take a hand on this for sure... remember HTC... moreNo they're not.

Google only (not-exclusively) licensed a bunch of patents from HTC and acquired some 2000 engineers linked to the Pixel program from them. HTC is still its own corporation with its own employees, completely separate from Google.

AnonD-463101, 08 Nov 2017unsurprising ... expensive fugly phones....I agree they are expensive and ugly. But personally I love the software and hardware (specs). If only they had better marketing and updated design as well as reduced prices. I really hope this happens as I have really liked past HTC phones I have owned. I like LG too more than Samsung, but they need to fix their software issues. Samsung is reliable but a bit boring for me. Sony is up there with HTC, great phones but need to update appearance and have better marketing.

You know a company is clueless when they look forward to the holiday season for profit while incurring huge losses the other 3 quarters.

No need to wonder why. All this is a result of 3.5 mm jack removal, weird shiny colors, overall outdated design. Basically whole U series is a terrible flop and management who accepted it for production needs to be fired for doing harm to company due to incompetence. I have no hope for HTC and sure that by the end of the next year they will be out of business.
