Swaggyp.
And what internal testing would that be then ?
Stuff internal testing, how about makers read forums or even just ask the public what they want.
I don't care if 3.5 mm bezeless 18/9 ratio devices become the norm,I will never buy one.
Just like many makers got carried away with making screens larger and larger but forgot that lots of folk don't want/need large screens, they arrogantly think sheeple will blindly pay more and more for devices they don't like or don't do what they want/need..
They appear to have forgotten that most folk prefer a choice of devices to pick from,if the big boys don't offer what they want/need,they will give their money to somebody who does, you realy think all Chinese makers will churn out the same cloned devices as the big boys.
Example case,ZTE axon 7,2 years old,has supposedly bad 820series cpu,but which is more than good enough for most people,it's got big bezels,to take in the good front facing stereo speakers,a 3.5 mm Jack,16/8 ratio screen, big battery means it's fat and its offered in two sizes, and although it's not particularly cheap,it's still selling as fast as ZTE can make them..
Why,simple, because it offers exactly what an awful lot of people want,it's not even a "pretty" phone either, yet is still selling, there will be a buyer backlash against poxy designer lead phone designs very soon...

18:9 screen ratio was the last nail to the coffin when it comes to my "love" towards samsung phones. Thanks, but thats just not for me, I use my phone in landscape quite a lot, and stretching phone simply doesn't work for me. Same goes for edge screens, all glass build and all that rubbish like no 3,5mm audio jack and wireless charging. All I want is big 16:9 flat screen, audio jack, reasonable bezels, and glass only where screen is.

[deleted post]Not being able to get the fact that we always live in the present (And in the present there IS need for the 3.5mm jack) makes you primitive.

Very impractical/inconvenient. So to me both video playback (For now. When everything is in 18:9 yes, but video playback is not quite essencial for a phone anyway) and browsing/texting is better on 16:9.

I don’t care much about bezels, but I do care about screen ratio and I believe it should stick to 16:9 because I do not see any advantage switching over to 18:9.

As someone who has both a zenfone 3 and an s7 edge I can confidently say that i prefer the edge.. Saying its tough to hold is a myth.. Nitpicking that reviews add.. I feel my z3nfone is slippery compared to the s7 edge and considering that both are of same dimensions, the edge really helps get a better grip

Its total Hogwash / sad GSMARENA assumed slim bezels means 18:9 , i feel it more of a trick question to not make 16:9 clear winner. Bezels should be as slim to make for comfortable viewing - bezels width like on LG G6 is good to not make phone fragile. Any lower will make it crash prone , and its achievable on 16:9 Screen. And i think few phones are like that today. ( Mi Mix is 16:9 right )

18:9 is just to fool customers into giving big screen impression , 16:9 of equal size will give content viewing more depth.

4:3 or 3:2 should be used for laptops, 16:9 should be used on phones. 2:1 or higher should be used on lightsabers.

I'm not a huge fan of it, but it's silly to pretend that it has no uses. It came our from internal testing that those companies did for god's sake (when instagraming, or messaging, ultra tall is much preferable as it allow for the keyboard to be on and still having a great amount of space on top)

16:9 or 18:9 is irrelevant. Eventually content would follow whatever happens to be the standard...

I sad to see though that small bezels was bundled along with the above question. Not only that it took less votes than 16:9 ...

Thin bezels cannot not be the future, we cannot haul gargantuan devices for much longer. Solving the issue of both mobility and the need for bigger and bigger screens is very important and only thin bezels (for now) and foldable screen (in the future) would solve it ... enough with having bricks in our trousers ... (I'm looking at you iphone plus and sony phones).

Thin bezels is above all a question of practicality ... I don't think anyone can vote against it (unless he/she enjoys small screens).
