30 June, 2011
The Nokia N9 certainly made a great first impression and a lot of people are eager to get their hands on it. That's why Nokia put up a webpage, that should help you find out when the device becomes available in your...

It's time for Nokia to STOP EXCLUDING the inventor of the mobile phone, the financial capital of the world (until China takes over), and the most lucrative smartphone market on planet Earth.

feenicks, 01 Jul 2011After reading some of the comments on here, it seems no one... moreOfcuz its not an os. Its a cross platform app framework with standard set of APIs. When i say written in Qt i mean written with for compatibility with Qt. You can't make an app with Qt for a platform that doesn't support it.

After reading some of the comments on here, it seems no one has a clue about Qt, so i'll have to pull one or two of you up on it. Qt isn't a computer language, nothing is 'written' in Qt. Qt is a cross-platform framework to allow people to make applications or UI in lots of different languages, such as C++, Java, C# etc, instead of being limited to just one.

Nokia intends to introduce Qt to s40 making it by far (multiple times) the worlds largest developer market. apps written on Qt are compatible with all Qt devices. The n9 would have no shortage of apps. No less that any other Qt enabled device atleast.

I will be confident about N9, not the software itself.

Maybe N9 users will find some good apps on the web, but, Nokia will not develop too many of them. I also have doubts about if there will be in Nokia (OVI) Store enough apps for N9 like Symbian.

Applications sold phones, also this motivate more developers to do better apps for those phones, but in case of the N9 when from the start Nokia is yelling "This will be the first and last....." and "No matter if this sold well....there will be no more...." that's is a bad news for developers.

Who want to program on a dead end OS. (Unless for Nokias) :(

AnonD-4697, 01 Jul 2011Agree.. I know about the feelings of Meego users...Soo m... moreLets get some perspective.

whats great about the n9 is not that it runs meego, its the UI and QT. The UI is nokias property and is probably written in QT. Elop has stated severally that nokia intends to advance on that UI in subsequent device. That can't be on WP and neither on s40 as it would require hardware that won't fit in the range.

I am convinced nokia is working on a new os with QT compatibility as at core. why else do you think they made a whole manual on the n9 UI?

Now, one would ask why didn't they just develop symbian. two reasons
                  - to avoid a transition phase
                  - to avoid the trouble of reparing a broken brand

I don't think this was the plan initially though. I believe nokia intended to use meego as their back up plan against WP but the partnership with Intel made things slooow... Elop must at some point concluded that nokia had the staff to create a disruptive os of their own and channeled some resources in that direction. Probably some of the billion(s) they got from microsoft. Its too late to back out of the microsoft deal by now and i personally don't see any reason too.

As for the n9, that nokia doesn't intend to release future meego devices doesn't hurt it and shouldn't affect a persons desire for the device.

                  reasons?
                  - the UI would be featured in subsequent devices hence there would be a succesor.
                  - it has QT support and all its apps would be written in Qt hence it would be compatible with apps for symbian and whatever new devices nokia pumps out.
                  - Nokia never said they won't support device. They always support their devices. It would get the necessary software updates.

Yet Another Android, 01 Jul 2011Ou should check on stuff like that before you speak. There ... moreDude, what you are seeing on YouTube are just a bunch of noisy fanboys who are trying to create hype for the N9.

It's pretty much like how the anti-Apple fanboys cried about the antennagate but did that stop the iPhone from selling well? Nope. The iPhone sold 18 million units in last quarter alone.

You cannot trust the hype or gauge the demand of the device based on the noisy fanboys on the net.

Take a look at Palm and their WebOS. It was released early in the game and stood a real chance against Android and iOS. The Palm fanboys made a lot of hype from it and the OS really deserves the hype. I mean, WebOS was that good but look at what happened. Palm was sold and WebOS failed. Why? Because of its tiny ecosystem, bad hardware, and bad advertising that bled Palm to death.

Now we have MeeGo. An unproven platform coming un late in the game with no ecosystem. Well, that's a recipy for disaster. MeeGo don't even have brand recognition and it doesn't offer anything that Android or iOS don't have and you guys want Nokia to bank on this OS? Please think.

Nokia don't want a 'proper analysis' since they're no longer interested in MeeGo as a leading operating system on their devices - it is as simple as that!

You don't see that about the Sea Ray and WP7 devices. Lets not even say which OS the people like better on Nokia's Official Site *Cough *Meego* Cough*. Even with Mango update, people still aren't impressed with WP7. Yes even people that own 360's aren't impressed and the OS was made for them basically. WP7 is a joke and a laughable OS and will NEVER be better than Meego, Android or iOS.
