Nokia N9 to miss on some major markets

30 June, 2011
The Nokia N9 certainly made a great first impression and a lot of people are eager to get their hands on it. That's why Nokia put up a webpage, that should help you find out when the device becomes available in your...

AnonD-4697, 01 Jul 2011And there's no Meego devices because no body cares Meego OS... moreOu should check on stuff like that before you speak. There are a bunch of Meego devices out there (not just phones either). If nobody cared about Meego, then go to the Official Nokia Youtube page and look at how many views The N9 big introduction has compared to the Sea Ray. Also look at the likes and dislikes in both. Also look at the Comments. Even in the Sea Ray video, people are saying they want Meego more than WP7. Now, How exactly can you make out that nobody wants Meego again? It's easily viewable in every Nokia and beyond forum that people hate WP7.

Ashura, 30 Jun 2011Ummmmmmm no MeeGo is for Nokia phones only...or for this pa... moreYou are Highly misinformed. LG, AAVA, PANASONIC, HUAWEI, INTEL and more make Meego phones. Not just Nokia.
On topic, This is all part of Elop & Crew's MS strategy. Then if the N9 doesn't sell well, they'll say "well we tried but it just wasn't successful".
I just want to know, how do they expect to get a proper Analysis if they want to see how the platform will do if they don't push it in the major markets as well? Marko needs to be Nokia's new CEO, FIRE POLE, I meant ELOP! MARKO FOR CEO!!!

Anonymous, 01 Jul 2011I agree with you in some parts. The reason why there is no ... moreAnd there's no Meego devices because no body cares Meego OS, is simple.

WP7 Mango still not out and there's already Devices for it...Android has too many devices for support, iOS has Apple since they invent this OS and is only on Apple devices, for Meego and Symbian things don't look good since there's no too many companies doing devices with those OS

For Meego, well, is just a nice experiment, but is far frm beign accepted or adopted from phones makers..

Only Nokia gets this ship and is already down...is just like the Titanic.

Maybe Microsoft is afraid a bit and that sounds not too good. Make MeeGo and WP7 compete in a free and just marketplace and see what will happen. Those who say that MeeGo has not a single chance didn't even try or see it. Make ordinary people decide and, if your product is a hit, they will stay in lines and wait for creation of any ecosystem.
Microsoft and Nokia will put generous sums of money in WP7 marketing and ads, as I see it, interest for MeeGo is so great that it simply deserves a chance. Moreover giving such a chance might prove to be
a right thing in right time.

AnonD-40, 01 Jul 2011The N9 will only be available on a few selected countries. ... moreI don't think I would believe anything unless it came from Stephen Elop himself, and at a loss with the closure of the on-line shops.
I am at a loss as to the selective release markets. Meego has to be supported for a number of years
What make sense to me would have been release world wide any sales Nokia makes is one less sale for its rivals.
Personally I don't see why the N9 has come in with some specs matching an Iphone 99.9999% of Nokia models have an SD slot
If the W series ie this sea ray is the windows version it still won't tempt me if it also has no SD, only time will tell if the N9 turn out to be the nokia relation nobody talks about
I don't normally pay attention to the daily interest but the N9 has surpassed the SGS2
re money Nokia has won its long disputed claim against Apples IOS so Apple is paying Nokia a license fee, an income stream for each Apple Iphone sold!
Nothing but nothing makes sense with this Meego device and with the price and specs you would have thought it would have been handled better especially as there is a copy function in this model.

It may end up that the N9 has a better "review" than the sea-ray as Nokia has included in this 4G device world wide bands,
it should have been a brilliant meego device then a brilliant WP device who cares if say N9 sold more than W9? not this

AnonD-40, 01 Jul 2011The N9 will only be available on a few selected countries. ... moreI agree with you in some parts. The reason why there is no MeeGo ecosystem is because there are no MeeGo devices. This is an OS I've always heard about, but never saw anything running it. Now that they finally did let it out. I honestly do believe that it would be capable to running with the big boys. I mean WP7 is a prime example, hell the only thing they kept from the old OS was the "Windows" button and name. That's pretty much it. Android too, started off with 1 device the original HTC G1, and now look at it just a few years later. The MeeGo platform has tons of potential, jumping into an already packed market with WP7 may seem like a good idea, but I just don't think it's the right idea. The N9 has instantly become one of the most desired devices out there. I saw the "Sea Ray" and I was like eh...another WP7 device. WP7 is a great OS but because of how they mandate everything everyone has and dose the same exact thing and that to me is boring.

And who wud lead the sales?? Ofcoz the geeks! No fone wud sell better if the geeks had nt lead it , makin others believe tat its a gud fone. So the dude Elop must not stop n9's sale in their largest markets.

Its great looking phone very nice design but MeeGo was never going to take of the ground. Its been years upon years in some form of development and millions upon millions in cost.

Its great to know that the design will live on in the Sea Ray handset.
it makes no difference because people will still be calling Elop a Trojan as if the company is running a charity and as "IF" MeeGo was going to save it. Business is not a Disney tag line

Oz, 01 Jul 2011Keep dreaming dude!I second that.

It's no longer who have the best hardware, it's all about ecosystems now. Too bad that some geeks think that putting in all the latest and advance tech on a cellphone will translate into humongous sales. People don't care how advance it is but they do care a lot on how well the device execute the things it can do.

Jeeylu, 01 Jul 2011Personally, I don't think that only these country will get ... moreThe N9 will only be available on a few selected countries. Nokia have the W series for the rest of the world.

Have you seen the Sea Ray? Ever wonder why it pretty much have the same design as the N9? Coincidence? No.

Nokia wants out of MeeGo and the only reason why the N9 came to be was because it was in too far in development. The best way to make sure the N9 will flop is to offer it in select countries and offer something far superior using the same design (the Sea Ray).

Elop and the guys at Nokia knows that in order to win against Android and iOS, you need to offer an ecosystem and MeeGo don't have that. MeeGo doesn't even have .1% marketshare and that's not good.

You guys needs to keep in mind that it's not that easy to make an ecosystem from scratch and Nokia don't have the time for that. They need money right now. You guys also needs to realize that MeeGo have no brand power and people on the street, aka the masses, don't even know what MeeGo is. What you see here on the net is just a tiny fraction of the masses. You see fellow geeks asking for MeeGo but you have to realize that not everyone is a geek like you. MeeGo offers the common person very few incentives other than being new.

What MeeGo have right now is also on other platforms. There's nothing that MeeGo can do that the others can't.

Elop is just going where the money is a you guys are blinded by hate. Nokia needs money and WP Mango will give Nokia the money they needed badly. It is not the time to experiment with an unproven platform (MeeGo). WP Mango is amazing considering that it is only the first major update on the platform.
