Samsung working on a WP7 version of the Galaxy S II?

04 July, 2011
After sparking a furor in the Android world with its I9100 Galaxy S II flagship, Samsung is obviously considering lending the form factor to another platform. A particularly juicy rumor has it that...

the MSM8260 (the chip in the htc sensation) isn't inferior to the Samsung exynos - I think it's a bit more power efficient

Hint: its never been about processor speeds.

I'm buying Nokia N9 next and I'm really exited about it even though it has "only" 1 GHz single core.

Still, its great to see WP7 gaining some speed too. Competition is really important in the long run. Apple vs. everyone else making similar Android devices gives way too little choice.

this is in anticipation of nokia's wp phone. samsung is hitting on all front. they are learning from nokia's past mistake and are rolling out new phones at much faster pace than nokia which is still in shock about losing their market share so fast.

Samsung wp7 is all over the place and they are coming up with update for both the hardware and the software side of it and this should not bring up any issue at all.
I also do not see this affecting Nokia in any way. In the last press conference by Nokia, they made mention of Samsung making a great wp7 to drive the market in their favour.

Nokia has one of the best phone out there and they can still do it.

I have always heard people complain about platform, os, now they are even complaining about the CPU. If you like one phone go get it.

Some how windows phone 8 could rule the world with full integration with windows 8. Let's wait and see where it all goes from here.

AnonD-5666, 04 Jul 2011You should also note that not all A9 SOCs are same. Exynos ... moreYes, that's true but saying that exynos is much faster than tegra 2 just because of NEON isn't exactly correct. The only case where an exynos is much faster is while running an application that utilizes NEON.
In non-NEON applications tegra 2 and exynos are almost matched clock-for-clock.
Exynos' big performance difference is because of its 1.2 GHz clock speed vs. tegra 2's 1.0 GHz.

and with Nokia, i believe WP7 would be muched loved by many^^
much like the HTC in there "Sense 3.0" technology, i mean hands down.. "TouchWiz" looks awfull comparing the two..HTC had really run skin-deep customization and tweaks..not just skinning the OS... but making it like they own the OS..

it will be the same with NOkia WP.. they have microsoft's approval on tweaking the OS.. WP7 will completely look and feel different in Nokia..
lets just see^^ fingers crossed^^ hope for the better...

If Nokia can differentiate themselves, I guess, similar to HTC with Sense, then they could certainly position themselves slightly differently...
Especially if they could add widgets, etc. that other manufacturers aren't allowed to do... something that is radically different to what is on offer by other manufacturers...
                                  HAVING SAID THAT
Just thinking about developers though - would you really start making specific bespoke widgets for one manufacturer who will be (to start with certainly) a small percentage within a small percentage market? Is it worth their time when you have mass-opportunity with iOS / Android?
