Rumored Snapdragon 845 specs point to next-gen Kryo cores, but old process

30 November 2017
The new chip will allegedly stick to the old 10nm LPE process like the one used in the S835.

acemang, 03 Dec 2017processor speed did not not stagnated...if you didnt notice... moreIt *has* stagnated. 2 latest generation of phones *same* single core performance:
http://www.androidpolice.com/2017/03/22/qualcomm-snapdragon-835-first-benchmark-results-comparisons-pixel-oneplus-3t-galaxy-s7/

If you go further back it's actually lower, but not by a lot. Ever since Note 4 and Cortex A57 (2014!) we haven't seen any performance jump on raw space in android performance. What.are.you.talking about?

Of course that's not so for Apple (40% performance increases yoy, at this point androids eat dust and wait to die).

r33fd, 01 Dec 2017So many people complaining about single core performance . ... moreYou asking the wrong person.I would prefer to have Apple A chipset power than battery life, you still have to charge your phone almost everyday, does not matter which brand or phone you use, so better more power than battery in this case. You right about A lot of things, but do you really think apps uses all 8 cores? Barely any app uses more than 2 or 3, so I pretty much say single core performance are very important. Basic functions on android phone uses usually only 1 core. So I blame chip makers for putting unnecessary amount of cores instead of like apple doing it with less but more powerful

In all honesty the 835 is a beat of a chipset, there is literally nothing it cannot deal with.

Not only that but it remains extremely cool during all of this and lastly it's stamina is unbelievable.

If the 845 can improve on any of this then I'll be hugely impressed and Qualcomm should be commended for this.

To obtain Nvidia type performance coupled with the stamina of a Kenyan marathon runner is superb.

Another point to make is that the A11 Bionic chips which the newest gen of iPhones use were put against the 835 / 845 and the operating systems were both android, I can see the A11 having a hard time beating the 835 / 845, the only reason why they don't in this regard when pitted against the iPhone is simply the highly optimized operating system on Apple, lets be honest here, they have 3 phones to take care of, they don't just make an OS and throw it out there, which is what Qualcomm do, then vendors do their best to optimize their devices.

      Good things from Qualcomm,

They are more focussed on the actual next generation mass market than a market than is going nowhere in terms of capabilities. The next best things is going to come from one if these that is going to blow all Apple and Qualcomm performances out of water with tight thermal packaging as well. Just check out nVIDIA shield tablet. Still a great deal!

But there hardly is any app that needs hardcore CPU performance in the whole play store .
The most demanding things are Games and they are always bottle necked by the GPU, not the CPU .
In 99 percent of use cases for android single core performance is not a huge deal .
What matters most is the speed of storage (determines how fast the apps open; Iphones have very good storage for years, while android flagships only recently have started to use higher speed storage types like UFS 2.1 ).
Second most important thing is RAM and multicore score, since so many things want to run in the background for multitasking .
Also 99 percent of people would benefit more from better power efficiency than better performance : Would you rather your phone open apps 0.5 seconds quicker or last 1 more hour SoT ?

Now look at FPS its will almost always be under 30 when in a games.

IF you are fine to game under 30 fps its you.

On my LG G5 its was always 55 to 60 fps.

So if you had a LG G5 i would agree with you.
S7? not so much i would change it right away.

I used one for 1 months and beside the screen and battery life its was not very good..

Fulljack, 01 Dec 2017it doesn't matter. you can't really compare the score betwe... moreExactly! It is also how the phone is optimized as well. Benchmarks are only for number crunchers. Give me real world performance!!!

Rafe Firmani, 01 Dec 2017I disagree.. i've a htc 10 and a htc u11 too.. The differe... morewell i disagree your disagreement

the difference is night and day...its not like a small improvement form one year to the next..it was a huge step in every directions. (its the sum of every "small" upgrades that make it huge)
much better camera ? yes. i gave my girlfriend the htc 10. and she cries all the time because my phones looks much better than hers...why you talked in manual mode beats me...99% of people use it in auto hdr+ mode. another one that only looks to the specs and not to the actually pictures.....
better screen ? Slightly? lol it is much brighter...in everyday on the street you notice the difference if this is small..good for you....your target phone is a 100 euro device...you will not notice the "slightly" worst screen.
more beautiful device ? "Depends, I prefer solid tank build of HTC10 than fragile u11 which I have to babysit everytime." htc u11 is fragile only on bend tests...in normal use its good quallity...i don't use front glass..after 4 months its still as new..but build quality is another division...in beauty..htc u11 kills htc 10. why you confused categories beats me. but then beauty again..its subjective..yes
much better battery life (with same battery) ? YES! this is a huge step..you will notice day to day use..this, the screen, the camera..are more than enought for the upgrade.
LIttle more smooth than the htc10 ? "NO, my u11 FPS doesn't work several times has to double tap to unlock the screen, never happen with htc10." never had that problem...complain to htc service not to me. but yes htc u11 is smother in every aspects in day to day use...if this is important? for me yes because i make apps and i need to test every day lots of builds...every second counts..and the smothness is appreciated to peace of mind.
"Any sd660 and up are more than enought for every day use with no delay? NO,you will be lagging on heavy FPS games." what part of every day use you didnt get? how many people plays heavy fps game in every day use? you? get a life really, no offence. console costs 350 (to play at home) then again..i stoped playing games 10 years ago...
"For games by a console please..are cheaper and better ? NO, that would cost me extra and I don't want to go carrying too many stuff. "...carring an ps4 on your back? you have a home? or you need to game every second of you life? again get a life...each one have different priorities..but saying that this year flagships are not a big leap from the last year is just a person that don't use the full potencial of the device...

Wow people are so I'll informed here. SD835 is slower than A9 and comparing Geekbench scores which rely on OS ?. Guys what you do is go to Anandtech and read how SD820 crushes 835 in IPC and also A9 completely. Then come back and post stuff.

Apple SoCs are expensive, SD is not that plus Qcom is busy with Patent, NXP, Lawsuits. Their true SoC to 800 was 820 with full custom Kryo cores, also please refrain to post the needing of faster processor than the Apple lol do you guys even know about PVS bins on the 800/1 and the 820 doesn't have that plus customizing voltage is hard task ? Want proof ? Go to XDA and read on Sultans first thread for OP3 on this.

Jesus you guys are so ignorant and trying to act as if this is the end of world if you don't break the A10 perf or A11. Try to use the 820 well if you can and build a custom Kernel if you want to run it on perf modr. Granted your phones don't explode or perhaps your brains on trying to tweak that beast soc.

I think Qualcomm should do like Apple did. Lower nanometer process but increase the die size to increase more power. I could care less about battery efficiency so please stop Sandbagging your processors, Qualcomm. Break that protocol just to be the best at benchmarks.

Combining new Cortex-A75 cores with old A53 cores sounds odd. I would have thought that ARM new A75 cores are meant to be combined with ARM new A55 cores in a state of the art 2018 top SoC.

it doesn't matter. you can't really compare the score between two different architecture at two different os, that's not how any of this works! as much as apple is winning in score battles, it hardly different in real world performance

SD845 will struggle to reach A9's single score performance, and since android is single threaded, you'll be getting apple 2015 power at most, that in 2018 top androids phone.
