Counterclockwise: OLED screens challenge old-fashioned LCDs

02 December 2017
Growth has been relatively slow and it could be due to lack of suppliers - not preferences - that is holding it back.

Besides since we dont watch them up close, they can get away with lesser quality panels.. phones on the other hand is an entire different story

Except oleds have a few major problems.
A)much higher fail rate being manufactured.
          B)More expensive,some of it due to A.
C)Accurate oleds realy cost a lot more.
          D)Image burn.
          E)Short working life/expensive to replace..
Oled, just a worse version of amoled, with even more problems.
Why do you think there are so few monitors or tv's with oled panels ?
          Price and manufacturing problems..
Me,I'll stick to nice, accurate, cheap ips LCD over poxy oled every time.

IMO LCD is not going away anytime soon.

Except Samsung, no other can afford using oled for all devices.
Other would have to increase price of the phones at least the difference paid between oled and lcd.

The new LCD from JDI is thinner than oled, also cheaper than current LCD. More profits for manufacturers.

OLED has its advantages like power consumption and high contrast. But all limit the brightness to give it longer life.

There are only a few oled TVs. I do think oled would be good on laptops.

Micro LED / Crystal LED will kill OLED before this can kill LCD.

                      Sony lcd> Samsung oled

People prefer OLED because of specs sheet - newer must be better. Small mobile pentile OLED screens are great for general consumer that can't be bothered with the screen, colors are oversaturated on purpose and in general consumer mind that usually translates into good screen. Remember how "washed out" neutral Pixel 2 XL screen got a backlash because it was not saturated enough?

Just like when people were starring into 60Hz CRTs and were not bothered with screen flickering cause they couldn't see it or didn't care even though that made them more tired during the long sessions. In the same way they are not bothered with OLED white shifting and flickering either or yellow/blue tinting across the whole screen. Color calibration of pentile OLED requires a lot more work than LCD and even then results are so, so.

TV panels are different story, OLED has matured quite well on TV panels but it comes with a hefty price if you want proper panel which pretty much tells you that mobile OLED screens are third rate OLED technology.

I personally prefer the vibrant colors and true blacks of oled. I mean if i want accurate colors, i'd get a dslr or better yet, use my own two eyes.

Plus, oleds make for battery efficient screens which already makes it far more practical than lcd.
