Counterclockwise: OLED screens challenge old-fashioned LCDs

02 December 2017
Growth has been relatively slow and it could be due to lack of suppliers - not preferences - that is holding it back.

Only very large screens as those for TV and very small ones as those for portable devices, wrist watches get benefits from OLED.
OLED consumes more power than LCD when the whole screen is mostly light, white and they have shorter life. In fact everything for reading web, ebooks is better with LCD, because the background imitates real papers, to create a look and feel for which mankind got used for thousands of years, stone plates with text were white too.
TVs usually have black or dark backgrounds in videos so it is okay for them OLED. Most below 2 inches screens have black background so it is okay OLED for them too.

I hate LCD DISPLAY. It looks like some kind of filter applied about the screen and the blacks are grey in colour not true black Amo led is great but it's very oversaturated in Samsung phones I bought a Lenovo P2 which is having a Amo LED display but it's not over saturated like Samsung phones that is the display is so cool I also like 1 + 3 and 5 also 5 t display they are not oversaturated also

OLED is a Junior, still needs research and how to avoid issue such as burning screens, reddish screens etc. as well as issue on AMOLED screen, but AMOLED is Senior with smartphones already in existence since the Nokia 808 Pureview, is reasonable since the Galaxy Note 7 is a warning and anticipation for some smartphones others, OLED may be since Google Pixel 2 to be anticipated for other brands, at least it's terrible but believe in the future maybe almost all smartphones are already using AMOLED and OLED.

Some said burn in issue wirh oled faster than old lcd.

MicroLED is the successor to OLED. Investing in OLED will be a win in the short term but a big loss in the mid-long term since MicroLED is already a mature technology proven to be better than OLED and MicroLED production yield rates are improving rapidly, faster than OLED yield rates have ever risen. PlayNitride has already achieved a 99% yield rate on MicroLED and is the biggest contender in this race. By 2020-2022, we'll be seeing MicroLEDs claw into OLED market share faster than OLED can take over LCD.

recently Apple will produce an LCD screen phone cheaper than the OLED Screen iphones for 2018
hopefully android OEM's will follow the trend.
SAMOLED still superior to any oled and lcd type screen.

I think LCD is still going to be used in the future, but only for cheaper devices. But first we need more capable OLED suppliers. LG has done an awful job lately (Pixel 2 and XL2...)

Later on, one would surely appreciate the smoothness of a 120Hz or higher IPS LCD. And Diamond PenTile sure is not a good thing to begin with, considering contents are actually made up of pixels that are in RGB matrix.

But yeah, I'm waiting for Sony's CLEDIS™ to arrive on smartphones.

I love my LCD screens, but damn it, my PS Vita's OLED display is still one of the very best I've ever seen.

OLED is great for mobile devices because it's thinner and more flexible (mobile devices more prone to bumps/dropping) than LCD. It uses less power, and have better blacks which is particularly useful for viewing outdoors. Its still not colour accurate, doesn't have features like high refresh rates, and more expensive to manufacture.

LCD is bulkier, uses more power but has an overall better representation of colours (that's very important), cheaper to make and it's proven tech, still being the standard for all content creators/professionals. Most industries would be using screens indoors in an office, on a desktop and not on the go, so it would make sense that LCD is still more common.

I'm still a bit afraid of burn-in with OLED on phones. For TV, it's ok because the picture moves. But on phones, there are many static parts like the status bar. I hope that microLED arrives soon.
