An old battery may be slowing down your iPhone

11 December 2017
As the battery ages and its capacity drops, the chipset runs at lower and lower clock speeds.

Oflife, 11 Dec 2017Interesting. It would be ok if you could toggle a switch in... moreCapitalism = mandatory planned obsolescence. In capitalism/corporatocracy, people don't have a chance against corporations in the court. In the courts, those with more money will win.

Test test, 11 Dec 2017You do know that other components also wear and tear, such ... moreThat's why you should use the memory card for as many tasks as you can, instead of the internal memory.

A flash memory lasts so long that you won't experience it's degradation/wear. Of course if you create/delete GBs of data every day like recording, copying 4K videos, constantly copying data files of games like GTA it will shorten the lifespan of the flash memory. (For example to modding the GTA games, you have to extract/repack the .obb file wich have GBs of size, so do that on PC instead. However I'm not sure but I read somewhere that you don't have to repack the whole file. Just extract it once, then you can modify files.)

Also disable automatic updates and bloatwares, useless apps that run in the background because they use the phone hardware (CPU, storage, battery, internet ...) pointlessly. Don't fill the memory, because it will be harmful. Always have some free space.

Good flagship phones use flash memories based on MLC NAND, like LG G5, Galaxy S7. It lasts much longer than the TLC NAND. TLC is the ceapest and most common, and the worst.

AnonD-157665, 11 Dec 2017Oh, now apple sheep boy start to become Electronic engineer... moreYeah. I'm from the Android camp. No. I didn't come to bash apple. just fix a detail.
iPhones are meant to survive 2 years, 5 if you really wanna stretch it. but CERTAINLY not 100. (based on updates longevity. an avarage iPhone user swaps his/her iPhone per 2 generations. and only the HARDCORE lovers. swap every year.)
but otherwise I pretty much agree with you.

And by letting you know the battery is low, most people won't do anything about it.
However, by making the phone "less fast" it will make people care, get up, and do something about the issue.

So, how do you change the battery on a sealed (I)phone?
It is a general problem, with the industry going into the waterproof phone hype, and people just forget about the situation when your 1000 eur/$ toy just can't keep up a full day of standby.

My Note 5 is fast but i'm running out of space, so the phone slows down when performing certain tasks, after taking photos it takes very long to save the phone too. Clear the space and then poof, it's speedy as hell again.

Interesting. It would be ok if you could toggle a switch in the Settings to disable this and opt to have a faster phone with less battery life. If it's to force an upgrade, I think a massive class action lawsuit is due. One can own cars, white goods, audio equipment, TVs for 10-15 even 20 years before replacement, and as per my iPhone 1 (2G) that was still working fine after 10 years, physically, phones are if looked after capable of lasting just as long. IE, 10-15 years. Obsolescence is very harmful to the environment too.

No, it's not the battery. A battery overtime decreases its max (mah) capacity when it goes above 400 recharge cycles. A 2 year old battery drains fast when operating the same tasks in comparison to a new phone. A new phone may lose 5% of battery while a 2 year old might lose 15%. That rapid increase of battery consumption taxes the battery and overheats it, making the SOC overheat aswell.
When you see these low benchmark scores it's due to thermal temps issues. Nothing compared to battery. A 2 year old device has dust and hardware reliability decreases in the long run.
What a nonesense topic without any common logic...
