CP101, 24 Dec 2017A phone has to have software updates. IPhone gets 5 years o... moreJust because you get an update doesnt mean its better. Especially when talking about the iphone. Especially when even when it reaches the end of its update life cycle it will still probably be lacking compared to its galaxy counterpart when it was first released. Let alone after it recieves its updates. And ios 11 is just one painfully recent example. Or how more people are finally realizing or accepting that ios updates bog down old iphones and that despite all the claims and lies of appple and their users and the super high prices that their software quality and optimizing are a bogus scam.

People posting about magically worse battery life than the iphone 8 (huge lol) and terrible aspect ratio or design obviously can't afford to pick one up. I advise you to stop your internet connection so as not to showcase your financial instability to people who won't care about you anyway. Plus, you'll be able to save up for an iphone that'll be throttled to the void in a couple of years' time. Win-win.

I'd say every phone from the poll is better except for the iPhones, of course.

Anonymous, 25 Dec 2017Do you own an older iPhone? I doubt it. I do (three) an... moreMy brother has 6s plus and everything is not fine, there's 300mz downclock in his case and it's been perceptible to him after the update we just thought it's because of the buggy update, but we know now why it was. Also, it depends on your definition of fine, if downclocking CPU from the point of release well within 1.5 years of usage is fine to you then I bet you'd enjoy even more iPhones going forward. S5 is 2014 device and in Android's case a factory reset gets it running fine again with iPhone that's not the case, my Nexus 4 ran better with each official update and even 4 years later with a nougat custom ROM (better Antutu scores), granted SoT has been reduced to 50 min - 1 hrs with 3g data on but it performs at its full potential. So the battery is not an acceptable excuse to downclock CPU, should design OS in a better way to manage peak demands in the first place and I can't stress it enough, should provide an option to go for performance vs battery life to users and inform users BEFORE rolling out the update.

This is a no-brainer. Samsung started the word "phablet". So technically, they got the best experience because of the stylus. Not to mention, the speed test videos i watched in youtube wherein the note8 has defeated or on par with the optimization with those of the latest iphones, i'd even choose it with eyes closed.

I do (three) and they all run fine. I can't say the same for my old Galaxy 5.
The slowing down is imperceptible to the user, and it makes good sense. Only someone without a clue would say "out of the question."

Samsung Galaxy S8 (5.8" screen) is the champion of compact phone.
Shouldn't iPhone X (5.8" screen) also fit into that category instead on this Phablet section...?
Can't somebody explain GSM Arena logic here

CP101, 24 Dec 2017A phone has to have software updates. IPhone gets 5 years o... moreiPhone is out of the question, we all know their 'Feature' to throttle CPU based on battery, so older versions of iOS that did not have that feature did run better..... Android has become so mature now that the innovation in terms of how perceivable is the change, has really been going at crawling speeds, Almost all major applications are compatible from KitKat and above, so the point is why should I update?? security patches could be a valid reason but then again people change phones almost every 2 years(at least in the developed world) so why go and check how many years of update a phone receives. In the developing economies, people use phones for more than 2 years but Apple iPhones and Google Pixels haven't been exactly affordable for those markets, people there buy 100$-350$ phones for the most part. Neither Google nor Apple offer phones in that price range, so the Chinese companies like xiaomi, oppo, vivo, lenovo etc. and Samsung with its J series dominate these markets. Point is the longer updates are only useful to people in North America and some parts of Europe who have the luxury to spend that much money on a google or apple phone and who do not wish to buy a new phone every 2 years and that number is small.
