They update miui only not the android version which means it may be so laggy on those old version of android.

So what, MIUI is just a skin, it's not like they gonna update all phones to Nougat and provide latest security patch for them. Goddamn Chink trash brands like Xiaomi are pure shit.

Anyhow I can install costume ROM's but the problem is that they try to foul you with this kind of fake advertisement "MIUI 9 for 40 Devices", but after all it's just a launcher customisation and nothing really on the Android version side or security patches... read the forum on their site!

This is horse shit. They never updated android on my mi pad 1. After miui 7, 8 it was still 4.4 . miui 9 for mi pad also comes with 4.4 with security patch from 2016. Such a joke.

Nougat Update has already been circulated to most of the high end devices including the Redmi Note 4. Yes it is heavily customized but there is no problems in the response time of apps.

my phone (redmi 4 prime) is already on MIUI 9 but still MM base not a Nougat....
spec better than Redmi 4X (already have MIUI 9 Nougat)

MIUI 9 is NOT Android 7 Nougat. Please don't mislead potential customers into thinking that Xiaomi keeps phones updated because that was a lie that got me.

Our household actually has 6 Xiaomi phones ranging from Redmi 4x, Redmi Note 4, Mi Max Prime and Mi Max 2. Not a single quality issue encountered. Your case is likely isolated if not a case of mishandling/abuse. Yes, Xiaomi's phones are not as well built as Huawei's flagships but they are durable enough to outlast phones costing twice their price like those midrange Samsungs that never get software updates.

I used to own REDMI NOTE 4 and all of a sudden after 1.5 year, it kaput. I bought another REDMI NOTE2 and used it for less than 1 year and it went kaput again. Since it was still under warranty, I bought it to MI service centre. But they told me that it was due to my negligence, therefore, they need me to pay for the repair. (personally, I think it was due to substandard parts).
Now I don't buy any MI phones... after years of terrible Xiaomi substandard products. Too bad that Xiaomi still offer updates for OLD phones, but really, how many people still own OLD xiaomi phones, when they can't last more than 2 years.

This is what I like about Xiaomi. They care a lot about their customers/users, updating even very cheap entry level phones regularly, (like the dirt cheap Redmi 4/4x's). In Samsung world, entry level Samsung phones and tablets and even midrange ones costing a lot more than Redmi 4's/4x's never get a single software update/upgrade.

Yeah, MIUI version updates are NOT THE SAME as Android version updates. Yes, the Mi 2 will run MIUI 9 soon, but it will still be on Android 4.4 Kitkat. App incompatibilities abound.
Heck, there's no word if the first Mi Mix will get Android Oreo with MIUI 9.
