Sony Xperia Fan, 21 Jan 2018Awww that's cute!
I don't know how USB C audio works, but ... moreHumans can't hear resolution beyond 16 bits and 44.1 kHz. Sometimes not even that. The 32-bit Quad-DAC is nothing more than a marketing gimmick, as is the "4x CD quality" you write about.
Sony transfers audio files at 24-bit/96 kHz, which is already well beyond the limit. Same for aptX HD. And why have you brought up Bluetooth? We're talking about USB-C.

Basically, anything questioning the 3.5mm jack will be thoroughly destroyed.

No matter how you try to call it, it's a pure scam, just like non-removable batteries (Because of which i already boycott flagships. If i can't have the 3.5mm jack too, i'll be buying even cheaper models). There's no lack of space and there's no law saying a phone must be only 7mm thick.
Lack of 3.5mm jack is unacceptable for my usage. I use it not only with my headphones, but my car stereo too. And when i'm using it in my car with my GPS, it needs to be plugged in. Sometimes i charge it with my power bank too, and listen to music at the same time. So how can anyone say it's "evolution" to have to use dongles and compromise is multiple ways? It's a HUGE step backwards and i'll never buy such an abomination until i have no choice and they force it to death like non-removable batteries. And i'll never buy an expensive phone. If i'm gonna have to compromise with tons of things and it's gonna be crappy anyway, then cheap crap is better than expensive (and still) crap.

If 3.5mm headphone jack will go away, then how the f**k are selfie sticks going to work?
Oh, they will need BT now. I get it.

I don't care about Apple gaining little more mAh battery by removing the jack.
I have the Zenfone Max with 5000mAh battery and a headphone jack on top.
I also have an iPad Air 2 with 8000mAh battery. Guess what? It has a headphone jack!

I don't know how USB C audio works, but I know that Sony's LDAC BT technology works by upscaling standard 320Kbps audios into 990Kbps signal, making it near Hi Res audio quality.
And Asus' NXT Smart Amp, a 24-bit DAC, that is, about 4x CD quality.
And goes without the saying of the LG V30's 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC.

[deleted post]And there are smartphones with 10 000 mAh batteries. So Huawei must have failed then?
Razer stated removing the 3.5 mm port added about 500 mAh of space. The iPhone 7 gained some 250 mAh, a large Taptic Engine and waterproofing in the exact same body by removing the port.

AnonD-1825, 21 Jan 2018This explains it very well http://bgr.com/2017/10/13/iphone... moreI asked you something about Google, you answered back with Apple. Brilliant, my bro, brilliant.
And since the screen is folded to achieve an all-screen look, why not just extend the display all the way down, make the phone taller with larger display, and give the headphone jack?
The iPhone X's bezels are about as thin as the LG V30's top and bottom bezels. How come they could retain the headphone jack? Take note, a HiFi DAC is built into the jack.
The iPhone X's design is not brilliant. It's stupid, I'm sorry to tell you.

There is absolutely ZERO valid reason why the analog headphone jack should be removed THIS EARLY. It is NOT the future yet! When amplifiers, receivers, speakers, car stereos, and other audio equipment no longer have analog input/output jacks, then by all means, phone manufacturers can remove the analog audio jack. When FM radio broadcasts ceases to exist, then by all means, remove the analog audio jack. But the truth is, we are AT LEAST a DECADE far away from the time when that happens. Why remove it NOW?
And NO, don't talk me into getting a stupid USB C to analog audio jack ADAPTER that you frequently MISPLACE and can seriously cause FASTER DAMAGE/WEAR to your phone's USB C charging and data port. It is not exactly a GOOD IDEA. You need to protect that sensitive charging, data and video out port (if slimport compatible). And NO, slow, WIRELESS CHARGING is not the solution when you want to charge the phone and listen to wired headphones at the same time. Wireless charging is inefficient! It accelerates wear of phone battery and phone internals as it produces more heat and runs for longer periods! Removable batteries and external charging are the BEST if you want phone longevity and prevention of loosening/damage/accelerated wear and tear of the important and very sensitive USB C port.
What's wrong with having maximum audio flexibility, that is, retaining the analog jack while still having bluetooth options? I listen BOTH to bluetooth and wired headphones as the need arises but I never consider the analog jack as 'redundant'. FM radio needs wired connection. My treadmill needs wired connection. My home hifi audio and home theater setup, my blu-ray, cd and dvd players and even my workplace sound system need wired connection. You mean to say I'm going to REPLACE them all for bluetooth compatibility or BUY and bring all those stupid adapters every time? Those adapters are only going to get lost/misplaced and accelerate damage to the critical usb c port, All this stupid inconvenience in the name of the FUTURE that is more than 10 years away? Thanks but NO, thanks.
The only reason I can think of why phone manufacturers are in a hurry to remove the analog jack even before it is obsolete is so that they can sell you bluetooth accessories that get replaced with new models every year! Those bluetooth accessories, headphones/earbuds with SEALED BATTERIES die a lot faster and GET REPLACED faster once the sealed battery no longer holds a charge. Guess what? That means more SALES! Repeatable every year! Just like phones with sealed batteries! That's the phone development pattern PIONEERED by Apple and Samsung. Phone sales are slowing down. Markets are saturated as almost every one already has a phone. Phones are going to be like desktops, cars, tv's, monitors and other appliances that are only going to be replaced only when they are damaged, that is, every 5-10 years. That is not good for phone manufacturers! The way to stop the slowing sales is to make everything disposable and SHORT LIVED! Thus, unperfected/immature technology amoled screens that look great for two years but rapidly dim and become yellowish or amber toned with permanent image burn ins after a few year's time! No problem they say, microled is coming and it will have better life but still no5 better than tried and tested ips displays. We'll make you all guinea pigs of the new screen technology! NO sd card slot so that internal memory wear and tear is accelerated from repeated read/write of media files (photos, music, videos) which could have been better handled by sd cards. Also, when internal storage is full, just buy a new phone or pay for and waste data on occasionally 'secure' cloud storage! Sealed batteries are the future so that once battery degrades and charging becomes a chore, you just buy a new phone! Prioritize waterproofing over drop resistance and removable batteries because you are going to drop and damage your phone a lot more times from dropping than from serious water submersion! Remove audio jacks so that manufacturers can sell you new disposable bluetooth headsets with sealed batteries every year while your wired audiophile headphones don't even need to be changed even after 10 years!
Never mind the health of the user being exposed to head contact bluetooth devices like headphones and earbuds! It's not ionizing radiation anyway and besides, the ear is far from the brain and the bluetooth headset listening is going to be short anyway because of limited and rapidly deteriorating battery life.
So there you have it folks- the truth: It's corporate greed basically in the guise of 'moving forward' into the wireless future. Buy into those 'futuristic' phones with no headphone jacks, no removable batteries, no sd card slots and new aspect ratio screens, and for sure the phone manufacturers will keep on coming with more and more planned obsolescence features.
Forecast: They are going to change the new 18:9 aspect ratio again with a new geometric curves so that you'll feel your 18:9 phone will look old. Desktop computers, monitors, tv's and other electronics appliances don't need ro be replaced frequently. So should smartphones where it not for planned obsolescence trends.
Don't want to upgrade? We'll slow down your phones in a software upgrade!

No it's more complex than just a Headphone jack
"Apple really had to get creative to manage an iPhone X design that is almost all screen. In fact, a number of the company's solutions to various design problems are strokes of brilliance. The perfect example is the way Apple manage to eliminate the bottom bezel that's present on every other smartphone on the market. This bezel exists because there's a display controller component at the bottom of every screen, and displays won't function without them."
"Apple used flexible display panels in the iPhone X so that it could fold the bottom of the screen underneath itself. This way, the display controller is actually positioned behind the screen itself, rather than behind a bottom bezel."
And how this was possible? They had more free space at the bottom thanks to removing headphone jack.

AnonD-1825, 21 Jan 2018The reason is removing that bottom bezel,
If that would ... moreHeadphone jack doesn't require any bezel. It is behind the screen, so it only makes the phone thicker, but nobody wants a too thin phone. Well, except for Apple fans maybe.
And if the headphone jack has helped Google to make the Pixel 2 XL's bezels smaller, then explain to me why the V30 still has the headphone jack despite having slimmer bezels.

Ultimately its way forward, because as things were, we wouldn't see wireless option to get same premium quality for longer time as there would be minimal competition. Wireless is still behind, with its 20Hz minimum. Hopefully can we see someday wireless buds for audiophiles.
