The only reason it didn't become competitive was because of various large corporations collaborating to hinder its development. Google made sure their web pages didn't load properly on Windows phone. Major apps like Snapchat refused to have their apps on Windows Phone, even when Microsoft offered to fund the development. A shame really, given that more competition in the market is always better for the consumers.

Missing windows phone, really the best OS in a phone. Using now android, NO CHOICE, and its boring to use. Windows is SUPERIOR to android and ios (used for little time)...WAITING FOR THE SURFACE PHONE...

It stil; continues for very few devices under UBports, it's a community project now.

Anonymous, 20 Apr 2018$ 99 for a high end SD 820 phone? This is absolutely crazy So crazy you can't get most of the apps normal people use! Jokes aside it's a decent burner/second phone, I has the Android version for a few months and it worked fine even though it only has Cat 4 LTE and battery life was pretty bad. VR was a nice feature even though I only used it a handful of times

if i were MS i'll manufacture phone and collaborate with Google with 1 high end phone, 1 mid range and 1 low end running android 1

A tragic end to a modern, user friendly and smooth mobile OS. The user interface of the wondows phone was second to none. There is still nothing close to a live tile out there in android or ios.
Satya Nadella, thanks for taking the mobile division down the shitter. With more investment. strategic partnerships and market development, Windows Phone could have easily had 5-10% share of the market. I remember they had almost 3.5% of market share in 2014-15, which was a good platform to take it further.
Instead, Nadella came and killed it by not releasing any thing of note and sidelining the development team.

Very sad that such good OS is nearly dead.
I am still using Lumia 630 since it was launched. Never have had a single problem till date.
Wish someone with good long term vision takes charge of MS mobile OS division and revives this simple yet efficient OS.

First Microsoft destroyed Nokia (mobile div), Symbian, MeeGo. And then they showed something tragic - Windows Phone/Mobile. Two mobile OS, one company (Nokia) and billions of dollars in the mud. Thank you Mcirosoft for leaving us with two OS (without any competition).

It is indeed unfortunate that Microsoft has pulled the plug (for now) on Windows Phones. To be frank, I am still using a Nokia (not Microsoft) Lumia, running Windows 10 and I have to admit, that in combination with my Windows 10 Laptop and Tablet it work seriously well. I my opinion, I think Microsoft, should not have been so greedy when they destroyed Nokia, just to implement their own name. Not a good move at all. They should have kept Nokia and let Nokia do what Nokia did best all these years (and what they do again now). Added to that fact to let Nokia use Symbian, Android and Microsoft, then you have a huge market in your hands, with just one brand, which back then (and is again now) extremely popular. But who are we, we are just consumers, knowing nothing about how to run a multi-billion company. So who cares. Well, if Microsoft is reading these comments as well, perhaps they should start listening more to their customers and not just do what the big boss thinks is best. It has proven to fail (and this is not the first time).

We all knew this was going to happen sooner or later. Windows Mobile platform just didn't have enough of what it takes to remain in the smartphone territory. It lacked apps that would appeal to many users, it lacked the ability to be tweaked as users want it to be, it lacked R&D that would have made it a better platform.
In the end, it was Microsoft to blame for it all. If only they tried harder to push innovation into their Mobile platform and accepted the changes necessary in order to advance. But in the end Microsoft was just too scared to make a leap and ended killing what could have been a good if not better mobile OS than Android or iOS.
