iPhone lands on UK, no 3G though

18 Sep, 2007
Apple finally announced officially the carrier which will sell exclusively the Euro iPhone in the UK - it comes as no surprise that O2 will be cashing on this deal since rumors about that have been going on...

i have to admit, this iphone has a really nice design.
but "no 3G support."
this reason alone is more than enough to drive me away from iphone.

plus, after reading all the reviews on the internet, i really don't think that people will waste their money on iphone.

I think the writer of this story should check the details. 390 euros is way more expensive than 399dollar... 390 euros = 534 dollar.

I would like to add the fact that the easily greased up screen makes is a hassle to maintain and an accelerometer that only rotates the pic when the back isn't parallel to the floor. I saw a ton of lag when it wasn't. Seriously, I finaly saw all the Apple products and the only thing that impressed was the Nano! Apple is only making "touchscreen" a fad because of their strong marketing and pretty designs. In a few years, touchscreen will become another option like QWERTY or sliders that you either love or hate.

I played with the iPhone yesterday, and I can't stand the accidental presses & virtual keyboard where the button are too close. After the initial gimmicky luster wears off, people are going to realize they are just paying for an iPod Touch w/ mediocre phone capability, less gigs, and contract. Even the music player can't give you wireless BT, has a recessed headphone jack, and mandatory the iTunes nonsense just to add songs. I hope it bombs in Europe because many of users should know better! NO 3G? Laugable. Waste your money on a iPod Touch instead, seriously.

When will this phone be available in Russia or at least unlocked for worldwide use?

Crazy when you think Apple makes an absolute minimum of £360 gross from any iPhone sale. That's purely based on £35 each month for 18 months and £270 from the handset. Not counting any connection fees that weren't mentioned until after launch in the states plus anything each customer spends above the tariff normal tariff price.

Given they recently slashed the US price of the phone in half, it's easy to see how much they're ripping consumers off. Because Apple could easilly have given consumers everything they wanted with the iPhone for the same price, and still made a profit, without compromsing the brand's level of exclusivity and kept the iPhone's perceived value.

From the outside it just looks like greed.

O2 will be amazed at the number of people returning the iPhone to them because having read all the reviews on www.mobile-review.com this mobile is not very good for calling or even texting so o.k it might look nice the iPhone but i can not see this mobile succeding in the U.K until Apple improve its functions for calling an texting

-Look at my iPhone! I'm so cool!
                  Third week:
-Huh... S****y phone! Who wants to buy my iPhone? £100? Anyone?

This phone will still sell to the fashion victims out there and believe me we see so many at (CPW) . So many people just want something that's "hot" and don't care about all the functions why else would anyone ever get the Nokia 8800 .
If you want a real phone with good camera and music player get the new Sony Ericsson K850i , if you want a proper smartphone get the TyTN 2 , if however you want the latest gimmick get the iPhone .

The Iphone in the UK? Ok... So how soon after its release can we expect a HUGE price cut? Just to be sure English lads won't be buying it at €400 and then a few weeks later Apple will slash its price in half...

The iPod is a great gadget but I will give the iPhone a definte pass. I would buy the iPod Touch and get the Tytn II instead. If you need a phone go buy a phone. Something that looks nice not necessarily will work. The iPhone is so yesterday with no 3G. Are these guys trying to give actual phone users a raw deal??

Preposterous! this iPhone is an iJoke... and a really not funny one!! This is a phone for skinny top models , not for somenone with a brain; so many limitations, just shows that Apple doesnt really care what functions WE EUROPEANS are used to have in our phones! And no Java? no downloads? and smsing is a laugh!!! screw the american iPhone way! i´ll wait for iphone 2... or 3 , or 4!! until they learn how to make phones you can use AS I want, not as Iam told!

its the lack of MMS that really anoys me

When MMS came out, I thought it was a gimick, but last weekend alone I used it 7 times to send wedding pictures to those who could not be there, I reckon MMS will come to the iPhone in one of the iTunes sourced firmware updates.

Apple really haven't thought this through this time. The European mobile phone market is way too competetive for a £280 phone to sell on a minimum £35 pm 18 month term.

At that price there's nothing to stop retailers giving away the new iPod Touch with every contract, as long as it's less than £280 on an 18mth deal! It still be cheaper than buying an iPhone. AND the customer gets a better phone, a better and cheaper deal and a device that is identical to the iPhone without the iPhone's (severely) lacking phone features.

i can imagine, like the US initial sales will be great, but after christmas ie come jan/feb I expect sales to tale off. Previously customers who spend £50 a month plus would not expect to be spending £270 on an 18month contract phone. Business users possibly.

Nokia marketed the the 8800 sirocco as their "premium quality" handset.

I think their biggest rival is not the Sony Ericsson K850i or Nokia N95, but the LG KS20; if that gets launched late this year on all networks, then I can imagine Vodafone, T Mobile and Orange making a killing, especially if it undercuts the Apple IPhone by a decent amount
