Sunday debate: Faster charging vs wider support

22 July 2018
Is it better to have proprietary standards or should we stick to Quick Charge and USB-PD?

I would gladly sacrifice fast and wireless charging for batteries and screens that lasts 3-4 days a charge.

    How about both?

Mandatory QC fast charging please. Also mandatory usb c for all phone. VOOC is nice but being proprietary is not doing any good at promoting it. Only Oppo users know. But an average joe will not care about what voltage or watt is needed for their phone. Not everyone is electrician. Any charger will do it for them. Phone die from using random charger, dont know, dont care, buy a new one. That how average people live.

TBH i'd like the QC tech to change, and switch to the more modern and better approach of makers like Huawei or 1+ . As someone who had a QC phone and now a Huawei , i much rather prefer the latter. Phone heat is not an issue unless it's summer and you actually need to do something on the phone in the mean time. Then it's a problem. Also this might seem trivial but my QC phone was throttling severely when charging and playing on it.

I'm into standard charging since Sony says that charging your phone rapidly can affect its battery performance.

Imo wide supported QC is better as it lower costs. It's better to rely on an already-existing technology that many can benefit from. Sure. It's not the fastest around but who the heck cares??? If it can lower the ever increasing price of phones. Be he blessed!

An ideal solution would be Oppo making (regular) VOOC available for all OEMs.

They make some money on each charger sold (like Apple does with every lightning cable), phones don't get hot anymore while charging, and it's free advertising for their Super VOOC, which they keep proprietary. Win-win for everybody.

I'm more into standard. Well... If I forgot to bring my charger, at least I can borrow my coworker's charger. Interoperability does matter.. :)

matix73, 22 Jul 2018Or maybe they are the people who don't want companies to be... moreProbably, I'd like also that companies share their tech let's say allow them to pay royalties for those who want so that consumers will benefit both.

I just use charger that comes with new phone end of story.....and yes faster is better for me.

nothing-, 22 Jul 2018Uh, oh. I think majority of those who voted for fast chargi... moreOr maybe they are the people who don't want companies to be forced to share their technology?

question. is it still so that faster charging reduces battery health?

Uh, oh. I think majority of those who voted for fast charging are xiaomi users. I prefer slow charging with wider or long term support than fast charging. Fast charging had bad effect on battery that's why sony uses Qnovo tech for longer battery life

Its ridiculous that there is not just one alliance that work together to bring some super fast and efficient charger standard instead of playing power in politics to strengthen the technological superiority of one country.
