Non-tech users will have hard time tweaking those or even knowing about the presence of such options. Blame it on Huawei for making things difficult for users. How Huawei making the battery life last is about killing apps in the background aggressively. I don't see why this is not Huawei's fault.

Its not VLC fault nor Huawei. Its the lame huawei user that dont want to take the time adjusting running background apps in battery management settings. Really, it just takes a few seconds.

As for VLC, they have to block it because some of this lame huawei user gave low rating in googke play. Sigh.

Well done VLC. No other solution existed.

Now VLC got low rating from those clueless users they simply have to banned Huawei from using it apps and protect its rating from plummeting further. I say it is a relevant moves.

Actually, you still install VLC on Huawei. You can go to VLC officials website download it.

Personally, don't care if they blacklist Huawei. VLC is a ram hog anyway, when I check how much storage it uses, it goes into hundreds of MB all for an App that is just used to play media files. Sure, it pretty much is the universal player when it comes to Windows and Android, but unless I need to play some obscure file format, the pre-loaded Video player on EMUI does fine.

And more often that not, I prefer to use OmniGIF to play media files. Sure, it has some quirks like ads but at least it allows continuous loop of the same file, something that VLC doesn't do.

Besides, as some have already said it, you can tweak it under Power management settings in EMUI. So personally it doesn't matter to me. VLC is pretty much just b*tching about how they are being restricted from excessive resource usage.

                          VLC is pure crap anyway.

I don't like Xiaomi's very late OS upgrades, but hell yeah, at least their MIUI software works like a pure charm.
Although I only get mostly 1.5GB out of 4GB RAM (without any opened app) on my Redmi 5 Plus, multitasking has never been any major concern either.
And Mi Video Player is so good, I don't even have to download any 3rd party video player like VLC or such.

Now I know why it suddenly stop playing when my mate 10 pro screen is off. Although I didn't rate the App but I am not using it now for music. VLC is a good app and plays anything you throw at it. I can't blame them though. Before, Huawei allows app to run in the back ground even if it was not their app.

You just have to explicitly give every certain app permission to not be closed as soon as the screen is off. One should just go through his smartphone's settings when he buys a Huawei phone. No, better do it with all companies' devices.
