The simple reason for the postponement is Steve Jobs funeral.
Any manufacturer with an ounce of common sense wouldn't make a big announcement about a new handset on the day of Steve Jobs funeral.
The Press will be all over the funeral and the world will be watching. Nexus Prime would lose alot of potential coverage.
Samsung/Google will announce their new handset when the world is watching a week or two after the funeral.

Wait, so is it official or not? You said the "official statement" was that it was delayed, but then you said there was no official statement form Google or Samsung.

It may bcos the Prime is leap ahead from iPhone4s, they might want to release Nexus Prime in the 2012Q1

They expected iPhone 5, but after iPhone 4S only, they saw it's not the right time for that

I hope they change the design, make it 4.5 inches or smaller and Super Amoled Plus, no PenTile, and add a 12mp camera with a good lence and keep the larger than 2000 mAh battery, and make the backcover of rubberized plastic or if the weight can be kept below 130g make a metal backcover to change the Samsung reputation of always making "plastic" phones!

no it's not steve jobs cus they would officially say it's due to the tragic death & of course it's not about nokia-hardly a rival in the mean time at least-
I believe it's a tech Flaw or something & they want the announcment perfect with no strings attatched so they delayed,the truth it could be any number of reasons other than the above so all we can do is wait :)

i am sick of this why do companies make dates and set things up only to cancel them why not make sure your 150% ready before making half a step in stead of jumping 40 steps and then saying OH MY god we went to far cancel everything. this is pathetic very sad and stupid move by Google + Samsung this was there first chance to really become the future of cellphones. Apple is on its knees with the bad unveiling and now the death of its CEO. So what do these companies do they take it down a gear and slow down bad move there going to be on there KNEES soon too. I have a nexus ONE and i was waiting for this phone so bad and i was waving good bye to HTC and going to join Samsung but they just lost a customer after this i am going back to HTC get a sensation XL or something iam tired of fake release dates and BS

They are probably posponing the event to rethink the prime's hardware.
they will probably equip the new sensor that samsung created.

The inner story is that these companies already know before hand what other brands will announce at events...some of them even sign a secret mutual intrest in which they carefully plan there announcements so that each of them can get the maximum benefits...samsung htc and all other big companies already knew what would apple announce...Some of the leaks of big phones are by the company itself to make some heat and pressurise da media on the event...the COURT CASES of APPLE and SAMSUNG are dere so dat da regulation of sales of products take place and the world doesn't complain..Its a simple logic..Apple has its IPHONE 5 ready..it didn't announce it coz ryt now NEXUS prime will b announced...dey didn't wanna clash it..IPHONE 5 will b announced around da announcement of NOKIA WP7 I.e nokia sea ray...its a world of blunder in da insyd and it seems all transparent on the outside..

maybe they just don't want steves death to overshadow the release of their new phone and to have undivided attention when they release it, and maybe they are observing how much steves death would impact iphone sales in the market.

I respect Google and Samsung's decision to delay the annoucement. Steve Jobs was one of the greats, and it is only understandable to do so.
Meanwhile, maybe in that short period of time, Google can cook up something to fight against Siri.
