As this might be a pre-prodution it might be a 4GB variant.
Although for the XL I think 6 should be the minimum.

For anyone who can't appreciate the 2GB difference, please check you tube. One example would be Asus zenfone 4 VS galaxy S8.
The ZF with 6GB had better multitasking albeit being slower, which meant that on the long run it saves you more time.

People who ask for more ram may have a usage pattern that requires it, as not all people buy the phone for the SoC and camera alone.

I don't where you got that from. There also videos of speed tests blatantly showing loads of app remaining in their current state on Huawei phones.

                          And guess what??
An iPhone 6s on iOS 12 would still run PUBG Mobile in the highest settings perfectly smooth and might even achieve higher frame rates than this Pixel 3 XL with 8GB RAM.
How funny is it to realize, that my friend's iPhone 5s on iOS 11 can run Rules of Survival in maximum graphics settings with FPS Mode off smoothly, while my Redmi 5 Plus is down on its knees running the same exact game at balanced graphic settings with FPS Mode on.

Pixel 3 XL flexes SD 845 with a "Fugly" notch.

Luxor, 03 Aug 2018So, 6/8gb ram phone have zero benefit? Why invent it then? No it doesn't have zero benefit but requires optimization. The oneplus 3 had 6gb ram but initial reviewers found out that the phone never used the extra ram. More is always better be it ram, storage memory, battery capacity or megapixels, they just need optimization.

Pixel will also likely have a large and significant additional separate chip included exclusively for the camera and it's processing with first class results. Collectively, they will no doubt have it sorted and balanced for final version.

Anonymous, 03 Aug 2018Based on his unit. My one is smooth. Maybe, but it's not only his case. There are some people who claimed that too. You might have been lucky but it's still a fact that there is such possibility. Personally, i do have bias but i always think about value for money. It would have been better if Pixel 3 had 6 gigs of RAM, just for the peace of mind.
