Counterclockwise: HTC is the foundation upon which modern smartphones are built

05 August 2018
You know HTC built the first Android phone, but did you know it also built the first Xperia phone? As an ODM, HTC didn't get the recognition it deserved.

Seriously, I think this phone is a step in the right direction. They already released a software update as well for the buttons and battery!

the friends i've with one plus devices, they all aged pretty bad, the ones that survived.
One friend had one plus 2...dropped 1 time...back plate didn't proper closed anymore.
Another with one X, dropped 1 time at 20 cm height, broke glass.
The others that survived..one plus 3 video camera don't focus anymore.
another with one plus 5 after 1 year looks worst than my htc 10 with 2 without any cover.
my u11 dropped more than 10x without a single mark (transparent silicone back case) till now and it failed on bend test from Jerry. people look to those tests as rules to buy a phone, what they don't get its pretty easy for a company to "trick" and to build a phone that looks robust and pass a test that everyone knows how he do it...and still is crap.

There is no issue with HW or Software. There is an issue with no marketing IMHO.

Android killed another company because Google squeeze every cents out of Android leaving OEMs nothing.

I still have the original HTC Desire, my first phone - It still works like a charm. I actually still use it. Best phone ever! SOOOOO MANYYY MODS WERE AVAILABLE ON XDA FOR THE DESIRE! Oh how I miss the days of changing ROMs on a daily basis! I also had an HTC One X - again ahead of it's time. And a M8. I wish HTC didn't exit the Indian market. I hope it raises from it's ashes like Dumbeldore's phoenix :P

An article showing sympathy to HTC? There nothing else we can help them with. HTC looks like dont even have enough money anymore to R&D a decent smartphone. Either some other company buy this brand or HTC walking into the light voluntarily.

They wer only great from Desire to One era after that its all crap

The HTC Hero IS NOT aka the T-Mobile G2 !

                          The HTC Desire-Z WAS the T-Mobile G2 !

I bought one myself so I know !

Geric.770, 05 Aug 2018Just do your own thing again, HTC! Don't follow those tren... moreI really want to see the day of HTC's comeback but they just don't go full throttle anymore like they used to..

The U12+ would have been perfect if it wasn't for a decreased battery capacity vs its predecessor and the lack of a audio jack.

Sorry, as impressive as their history was, a retrospective on Motorola and BlackBerry would have been just as impressive. Doesn't mean anything when you look at where they are today.

Nokia still stands as a textbook case and point that you should NEVER rest on your laurels and forget about your past. The tech industry is as fast-paced and ever-changing as consumer habits are.

I don't have much pity for HTC, they could have changed direction and leadership a while back, they were conscious to their mistakes and pitfalls yet to this day remain unwavering of they're bad decisions.

There's no space for a company like that when Huawei, Xiaomi, Vivo, OnePlus and others came out of nowhere but innovated and provided value and budget prepositions to make their presence felt.

Siemens, Ericsson, Alcatel can attest to this in the same way Kodak and Polaroid can in the camera industry - always stay ahead of the curve and lead by innovation.

After 4-5 years of modding, and getting almost every possible version of android, my friend's HD2 needed a chip replacement and mine had a crack in the screen.
With no spare parts available, we merged the two and gave it to his father who actually wanted it instead of a new one.

It finally gave up after 8 years of good performance. Great phones shouldn't die without a long service. It's still in a box at his home, just for remembrance :)

Well it's cool that HTC did so many great things, but the baseline is, that you need to innovate to stay relevant. Showing off what you did once when you ware young, might get you a few listeners for your story, but will not pay you your salary.

I hope HTC survives. It's a good company. I swear it's bad that it loses to Apple who doesn't do a thing.
