Counterclockwise: HTC is the foundation upon which modern smartphones are built

05 August 2018
You know HTC built the first Android phone, but did you know it also built the first Xperia phone? As an ODM, HTC didn't get the recognition it deserved.

For a moment there, I thought you were going to say that your HTC One M7 switched back on with the intro. tune blasting out of the speakers with the logo 'quietly brilliant' (like my HTC Desire HD does), giving away your position.

I also had the HTC TyTN II pda from work, things have moved on alot since then.

P.s. GSMA Great article as always, but where you say, "Google eventually bought the Pixel division from HTC for $1.1 billion.", it links onto the Google Pixel XL page, I think you meant:

The HTC Desire remains the greatest leap and most ergonomic android phone ever made. I was proud to wield that beautiful phone, but since then, it's been one monstrosity after another in the android phone market.

I am still have HTC Amaze 4G in very good condition. The build is very sturdy and solid. I never using it anymore because the battery drains so quickly (only 1730 mAh). I offered it to my friends and relatives, but nobody want it. Now, it is still my drawer with original box, user manual, original cable etc...

all that is great stuff, and now HTC should be told in no ambiguous terms THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES !

Wow. Great article. Love reading a little history. So enlightening their pioneering and not so long back.

I have owned a One X, One S and now my One A9. All great and the A9 is particularly good. Still my daily driver. Where, masculine handset, good size and like HTC stellar build quality and interface.

I would continue to support this brand. But feel the shiny lollipop handsets are not for me nor are greasy magnet glass backs. Brightness could also be better.

HTC need a revival mix. Solid, classy metal phone with character, with nothing missing, screen brightness strong, though debatable.. yes to Jack. Love to see a new A9, beefier battery, refined bezel, metal, same glass to frame smoothness with a 660 or 7 series chip.

What you should do is follow a revival strategy similar to what Nokia is doing by focusing on value pricing as well as focusing on low end and midrange phones with aggressive pricing and targeted feature strategies with some advertising like what China phone brands are doing, and you'll be back on the road in no time.

I haveowned i-mates, XDa's, diamonds, desires and up to M9.All briliant and rigid phones with good batteries AND pioneers.
Yes, HTC should have adopted to the modern times of clones and cheap materials in the middle market in order to survive, but the flagship models of all companies even the Chinese junk (Oppo Find etc) are now hitting sky-high prices anyway. So 1000 bucks for a solid rigid XZ2(P) or an Oppo wih very limited life span?

HTC M7 must be the height of HTC's success. Sadly they never reached the same point again and likely never will.

Your country is like in my country (Philippines) too, where the word "safe" is almost non-existent these days. Your HTC M7 deserves to be your saviour during those days.

My country is the second least peaceful in SEA due to the new approach of the new government. I can't really tell the whole story, but yeah. It's reality and I can accept the whole situation. :(
