I loved Sony Ericsson devices back in the day. Then later I got the first Sony Xperia Z series and was mildly impressed. Now I just don't know what the point is. Can't get excited for any of their mobile products. Remember the Clie? And Vaio line? They gotta get back to work making us excited for Sony again. Is it over for Sony? Say it ain't so(ny)!

Sony release Google cameras update, firmware updates and coming up android Pie to flagships, this is more worth than any competitors.

I know that happened to Sony's flagships before, but I forgot when it happened. I'm not blaming on Google, but I'm showing how release times can affect smartphones

This generation is just too much sometimes, probably the most spoiled generations so far.

They should strive for perfecting the quality of the hardware that they already had similar to what Sony did with their Xperia.

I am just glad to know that chipset manufacturers are not at fault. I can always choose which OEM to purchase from, but I can't choose which chipset will run them.

Peter-B, 17 Aug 2018Someone should tell OnePlus that, they are bringing Pie to ... moreIf the business model wasn't all about money, upgrade cycles in Hardware would have stayed long. Heck, every month there is news of new SoC/chipset/tech and older still capable devices are given the boot. Nothing strange, pure economics and growing greed of companies to charge every year with lesser innovative products.

Updates or no updates. Phone's usually run good with the version they are launched with. QC is so bad in software plus Android's open source and wide OEM (H/W S/W) nowadays that quick update is like fixing some bugs and adding or breaking old functionality. I do find security patches worth it but wonder whether some hacker will really put so much effort and complexity to hack an average consumer. If one has to be exploited or targeted to hack, it's darn simple. The frauds and duping ways have one thing in common - one's lax or greed in judgement. No matter how security loop holes are patched, if you are on the network, there is no stopping. Added functionality is welcome via updates but haven't seen much of late.

please.... Sony XA1 Plus means for additional hardware but why no software??? XA1 Plus came together with XZ1 and XZ1 compact and why it's not in update list? I bought this phone for hard earned money, I love it a lot and hoping to get next version of android.. then why its named as Plus? I cant see any plus software wise... Its so strange... I mean ok mediatek is other paragraph of program but then why Sony decided to include XA1 "PLUS" with flagshp series.. I mean those little things costs respect in market.. smells like they had enough mediateks P20's to manufacture a variant between budget and flagship line no matter how much sales they can get.. just getting away with leftovers??? REALLY SONY??? Those speculations triggers me a lot...

Someone commented on some website that the reason why XZs and XA1 is not getting Pie is because SD821 and Mediatek is not supporting it.

If the Chipset manufacturers remain an important part of this equation, then Treble or other initiatives have no significance.
